I just played World of Warcraft for the first time.

Hello, fellow Elune Dopers!

I’ve been playing since open beta, and would be more than happy to have some SDMB friends on my friend list. My Doper gf and I play together all the time with our guildmates. So if you see me online, give me a shout.

Alliance Halak (hunter), Flick (rogue), Ironwolf (pally)
Horde Lutheryn (warlock), Meogg (warrior), Kwygon (shaman)

when i am in game on elune, i will open a channel sdmb for people to /join

and bugger, i had houseguests since about 530 this afternoon…WITHDRAWL!!!

I had a turn to play last night! Aru found me within a few minutes of when I signed on and gifted Abbygnome with potions and spells to make her strong and brave. She went from level 5 to 8 within just an hour or two with Aru’s Margali and Eisfalk’s help. It was very fun.

I’m still learning and she was very patient and helpful, even when I messed up and got Abbygnome killed. I also had TeenSthrnAccent trying to help too.

Me: Help! One of my message board friends is talking to me and I need to reply.
Him: (Disenterestedly as he is watching t.v. and doing Calculus homework.) Hit enter and type your reply.
Me: That didn’t work I don’t think, it gave me a yellow help message. Hurry help me before she thinks I am being rude and ignoring her. :o
Him: You didn’t do it right then, did you put a slash? (Walking up to keyboard and taking it away from me and poking at it a few times.) There. Now only you and she knows what you are saying. (All the sudden Abbygnome starts dancing and shaking her bottom  in what would be a sexy move if she weren’t a short dumpy gnome with a very plump backside, but comes off cute and funny on the screen.)
Me: What’d you do?
Him: (Big sigh and pulls up a chair.)

More explanations from him and Aru and soon we are on a quest.

Him watching me: No Mom, you are supposed to let her draw them in for the battle.
Me: ok
Next beastie battle -
Him: Mom you need to run in front and take the hits because they don’t hurt you as much as they do her.
Me: Well which, IS it? Run up or hang back? (Throwing exasperated mom look at him.) :dubious:
Him: Wait until she starts it, then run in front of her. (with a big, mom’s are such a pain sigh.)

And on and on for about two hours I think and yet, it was still a blast.

Another amusing moment came when someone came up when I was trying to empty my backpack by selling stuff at a vendor. The other persons character flirted with Abbygnome then blew her a kiss, (I think, hugged? or something) and saluted her. Cracked me up because I was imagining the person was my son and his friend’s ages (16 to 18) thinking he was flirting with someone his own age. I was thinking that if the poor boy only knew who was sitting on the other side of that screen he’d die of embarrassment. Then again, maybe not.

Thanks again, aruvqan.

Taking down names to add to the /friends list on Elune.

Dang, doesn’t anybody play on Proudmoor? I’m alliance and a paladin. The character name is Anova. My husband is Nosferato (he’s a warlock). I’m just about to lvl to 31. I finished Bride of the Embalmer last night (still have get hubby to finish that one).

We’re in the Angels of Alliance guild. Look us up if anyone plays on this server.

My pleasure=)

This would explain why he kept saying use the backstab Mom! :smack: I shall have to practice that move.

I have discovered the pick pocket in stealth on the human rogue on stormreaver. it’s a kick to use. Only time I’ve ever impressed the kid playing the game. I was level 9 or so at Jarod’s Landing trying to get the schedule for the dock from the dockmaster. Inside the house there is a dockmaster lvl 10 and two to four defias brotherhood (lvl 11 or so I think) depending on when you go in and there are several outside around the house. I was playing alone as I almost always do and so had been killed on my first attempt. After I resurrected, I stealthed right away and crept into the house behind the dock master and picked his pocket of the schedule instead of battling it out with everyone. He had wandered up and happened to see me as I did this and then crept out of the house before fleeing the scene. He chuckled and said the words every parent loves to hear, “Cool Mom”.

LOL, I still have to coach mrAru, he is a new addict. I was in closed beta and he was watching. He did play a bit in everquest, but it never really grabbed his attention [probably because at the level I was playing at took serious time involved, though he did get a kick out of me in my guide character playing tourist while taking advantage of my invulnerability to every mob=)]

I have played everything except mage, and I admit, rogue is fun … being able to sneak in to the one mob you need is great…you can get in before the people killing off the other mobs gets there=)

Nobody plays on Shadowsong? Damn.

I’m a level 35 Engineer, with Roguish tendencies- a Gnome named Wonky. Our motto: “If it works, it’s Wonky!” ™

I’m having problems today. If I play my main character, the game freezes if I click on a PC or NPC (or my pet). Just a single click, and the game is frozen. I have to reboot the computer. Out of the blue, it was. I played yesterday for hours with no problems. Then I logged and came back later and was having really, really bad lag or frame rate issues. So I logged out for the night. Today, can’t click on anyone. I can play other characters on that same server or other servers fine. I’m frustrated by the slow response rate of the GMs.

At 48 and 46 my boyfriend and I duoed two level 50 elite dragons the other day (albeit one at a time) so I’m feeling prety cocky and just wanted to come in here and boast.

A GM told me how to fix my problem. He suggested I rename the WTF, WDB and Interface directories and start the game. It worked! So I went back and put those directories back in one at a time and found it was the WTF directory. Deleting it fixed the problem.

I was kind of hoping someone would bump this thread. Otherwise I’d have had to make a new one.

I just picked up a copy of the game on Friday, and spent most of the weekend playing. My main character is currently a lvl 13 Gnome Mage on Hellscream, and I’ve started a couple of secondary characters on Thunderhorn. Do most people on the SDMB play Alliance? I’ve been mostly considering Horde, but just about all of the friends I have that already play have Alliance characters as their main ones.

– Teine
Aubergeiron, 13th Gnome Mage on Hellscream
Ceallach, 6th NE Druid on Thunderhorn

That explains why I saw you logging on and off a bunch of times yesterday. I wasn’t sure what was going. Glad you got your problem fixed.
My easily amused self thinks it’s quite humerous that there is a WTF directory.

We’re alliance, and I actually only know one person who plays horde.

There’s actually quite a few Horde on Thunderhorn. The Straight Dope guild there is called Burning Dog Legion. Many very friendly and helpful people. There’s almost always at least 3 or 4 people from the guild online (when I’m paying anyway…usually around 10pm -1am pst).

Korvisha, currently lvl 25 hunter

I knew that there were a number of SDMBers on Thunderhorn, which is why I picked it as my secondary site. I just wasn’t sure how many were playing Horde characters. Guess I’ll have to see if I can find you guys at some point.

Here’s a thread about the guild on Thunderhorn if you’re interested.

I’d just like to confirm what AbbySthrnAccent said - aruvqan is a lady of impeccable honour and graciousness. Very patient with a relative newbie, and she’s been an enormous help on my questing. Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be able to help her much…yet. Somehow, the three firefins didn’t feel like quite enough.

I hope I’m getting better at this…although I still have an issue with ME looking around the room when I want my CHARACTER to look around…and I’m still trying to figure out the optimum keyboard configuration. I am currently unable to drive with my left even though those keys are much more flexible than the arrow keys. I’m almost brave and desperate enough to try macros.

Lag’s fairly horrendous at times though. Wish I could get a map to the nearest servers…by hop and pingtimes.

See y’all 'round Elune, unless it’s lagging too bad, then it’s Cenarius…

I had a chance to play Abbygnome for a bit last night. When I signed on, I had the nicest surprise. Mail from aruvqan it had a cloak, pants and a lovely 8 slot leather bag for Abbygnome. I leveled up to 9 from 7 I think. She learned to cook and first aid. Hasn’t learned to fish yet.

My. Oh. My. but this game is addictive. I thought I’d play an hour and then do some things around the house. I spent the entire time they were gone (to a college baseball game) playing with Abbygnome.

Two fun things happened during that time. A level 57 warrior on was on the tram with me and being naturally shy Abbygnome /waved at him, instead of speaking. (Her alter ego isn’t a great conversationalist.) He bowed. Heh, I dunno why, but it cracked me up. I had just figured out the wave and hadn’t seen anyone bow yet.

Later a level 40 something made a rude hand gesture as I ran by. (If you can call the lope a gnome does running.) Can’t figure out why a level 40 something was in Goldshire, or what I did to warrant the rude hand gesture.

Where is the list of /whatever commands?
I know /wave, /dance, /kiss and /pray.

Oh one more thing to share. I came in the computer room when my son was playing late last week (which is almost all the time these days, but I digress) with his friends. They were waiting for someone at the entrance to deadmines or some other similar spot. He called me over and said for me to watch. He set his level 27 paladin to dancing then opened the “c” window where you put the armour and stuff and started taking one item at a time off. The result was that the character who had been dancing was now doing a strip tease on the screen. Cracked me up with surprise.

Anyone else with those fun moments of surprise when you discover something new?

A few questions please? (Because if I ask the kid, he will just get irritated and put his hand on the mouse effectively taking the game away from me and ruining my time.)

How do you know if an item has enough value to put it at the auction house? How do you know where to set the starting and buyout price?
What did it mean when someone asked me if I had any green items they could disenchant?

You can auction anything, and some people do. You can also set the minimum bid and buyout prices at anything, some people do that to and I’m sure wonder why no-one buys their level 6 stuff for 1 gold.

My rule of thumb is if it’s a green item over level 12 or so (minimum level to use the itme) I’ll go and see what the general buyout price is at the AC, then set the buyout price for my item at about 5 silvers below that. I let the AC do the start price automatically.

Enchanting is a bitch of a skill to learn because you get your enchanting powers from disenchanting green items; so enchanters need all the green items you’d normally sell for your $$ to disenchant and up their skill.
