I Just Watched One of The Finest Movies Ever Made and I Never Knew It Existed

For all I know, every one else has seen Fido but I don’t watch much TV at all and hardly ever go to the movies. This movie changed my world-view. It is set in the 50’s with picture perfect towns but zombies are an ever-present threat and there is a giant security company that protects the towns but not perfectly. Even the kids are armed in an innocent but in an aggressive way.

It isn’t dorky in the sense that other zombie movies are and there is a real storyline. The movie is very well made and the storyline is surreal but beautifully presented. It is like a cross between Stand By Me and Pulp Fiction.

Did anyone else really like Fido?

Netflix has been recommending this film to me, guessing that I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars (and I’m a pretty tough rater), but the synopsis of the movie put me off. You’ve just convinced me to give it a try. Thanks.

I thought it was mildly amusing; mostly disappointing. Brilliant idea, clumsily executed.

Own it and like it. It’s on my annual list of Halloween Zombie Movies that I watch.

I liked is a lot more than I thought I would. Netflix kept recommending it to me, too, and then it ended up on the Watch Instantly list. With nothing to lose, I watched it and was surprisingly entertained. I rated 4 stars.

I’m a zombie movie fanatic, so of course I’ve seen it. (I even own it!) And I like it a lot. I love the subversive themes that apply to everything in the world today. And I love how it’s presented - you think it’s this piece of fluff, but it’s also got some incisive social commentary in there. All the best zombie movies do. Plus, it’s just plain funny.

I liked it but not as much as I thought I would. It was like having sex but with no orgasm.

I love a good zombie movie and started out liking this one but it ended up on the wrong side of mediocre in the end. Should have been better.

I have heard of it, but passed on it several times. It does look like it has promise, but I am usually disappointed with these.

I would second this. It’s pretty entertaining on first viewing but it doesn’t really hold up. The design is great, and the performances are fun (noteworthy: Tim Blake Nelson), but in retrospect the ideas are pretty obvious and predictable. I’d give it a solid B-minus.

“Rated R For zombie-related violence”

More movies need that description under their ratings guide:

*Next *(Rated PG-13 For zombie-related violence, intense sequences of violent action, and some language)

*Crash *(Rated R For language, sexual content and some zombie-related violence)

The Devil Wears Prada (Rated PG-13 For some sensuality and zombie-related violence)

Says the guy who raved about it so strongly (then never mentioned it again) that when I finally saw it I was a little let down.

That said, I’d tend more towards a B – great performance by Billy Connolly, as well as Nelson, and at least the damn thing is a thoughtful spin on the zombie genre. The dynamic between Connolly and Carrie-Ann Moss is … intriguing, but the movie blinks.

“In the brain and not the chest. Head shots are the very best.” I thought the movie was really good. It was a lot of fun and most of the acting was great, but the movie just didn’t flow right. That’s just my humble opinion. It was still a great watch and it will probably end up in my collection. I would say somewhere in the B+ range.

Yeah, yeah.

I walked out of it loving it. Sober reflection changed my mind.
