Today for lunch I ordered yat gat mein, which is a noodle dish traditionally served with a whole hard boiled egg nestled in it. In this case I don’t mind the egg, but really don’t need it. I’ve thought about ordering it without but maybe that’s a different dish?
When I order a greek salad I ask for no olives. I like the traditional dressing a lot, and love the feta cheese and everything else. I don’t care for olives. Is it still a greek salad, or should I order a garden salad with greek dressing and feta?
Anyone else? Reuben with no sauerkraut maybe? Bananas Foster made with no bananas?
Stuffed peppers without the peppers. I can’t stand bell peppers, but I used to happily eat the filling when my mother would scoop it out of the pepper & serve it to me that way. (Sometimes with mashed potatoes and I’d mix it all together - yum!)
I’ve been eating a lot of those lately, too. I don’t mind the lettuce, but it’s hardly essential, and I can’t find lettuce for sale anywhere in a small enough quantity that I’d go through it before it went bad.
This is mine. My brother-in-law made these Greek-style stuffed peppers once. He left the peppers off on mine and my sister’s portions, because he knows we both don’t like them. Absolutely delicious–and none of the leftover pepper flavor!
Not a key ingredient. With onions is certainly more common than without, but if you don’t specify with or without when ordering, they’ll ask: There’s no default. The only really key ingredients are the meat and the bun.
