I love pistachios, don't you?

This meeting of the Pistachio Lovers Society will now come to order. Please list the reasons you love pistachios. I’ll go first:

  1. They are delicious
  2. The shells are cute

The chair recognizes the PLS member in the back. What do you love about pistachios?

Nuts are a good snack in moderation. However, it’s all too easy to shove a handful of almonds in your gob and consume 600 calories without noticing. Since pistachios have to be opened, you go slower and can’t just gulp them down unthinkingly.

Plus, they are one of the tastiest nuts! Why did Trader Joe’s cancel the garlic-coated pistachios? WHY!?

They are delicious!

It’s a good thing they’re so expensive or I’d eat nothing but pistachios.

Pistachios have style with the cute shells and the mid-century modern coloring.

And they’re such a pretty color! Yummy and pretty.

Not only are they good, but apparently they’re one of nature’s little colon brooms.

Try a bag of jalepeno pistachios.

I am a new member and I don’t know if it is at all appropriate to post a dissenting opinon here.

If I was to explain that I do not like Pistachios at all, would that be considered an inappropriate thing to do here?

I mean, after all, you do ask the question, “Don’t you?”

I do not wish to behave like a jerk and so I will await your reply before I say anything further.

I’m glad they’re finally widely available without the fake coloring. They’re prettier au natural.

We keep a bowl of them in the kitchen for light snacking. Fortunately most of them are already cracked enough to easily open. I can’t do the others because I’m a guy; I have no fingernails.

I love pistachios - they’re easily my favorite nut. But you know what I don’t like? Pistachio ice cream. I was expecting nirvana, but got blah. It was the papaya of ice cream.

Also, pre-shelled pistachios are kinda crap. Dunno why, but even fresh from farmer’s markets they seem to taste soft and stale. It’s like once they leave the open shell they degrade in like five minutes.

I’m confused. Why did you join the Pistachio Lovers Society if you don’t love pistachios??

OH, you meant you’re new to the board.

Dissent away, I’d say.

So tasty and so expensive.

Definitely my favorite nut, though lately I’ve been all about the Blue Diamond “bold” flavored almonds.

Addictive little bastards they are.

Ben & Jerry’s Pistachio Pistachio is my favorite ice cream. The only thing that could be better would be Pistachio Pistachio Pistachio, but I haven’t heard back from Ben & Jerry’s regarding my suggested improvement.

Just as long as you aren’t rude about it, no one will care. If you are rude, the mods probably won’t care, unless you insult someone, but the result will often be a bunch of people getting mad, followed by a debate that someone else will think is offtopic and think of it as threadshitting. However, the mods still won’t care. (The other possibility is that there will be a little snark making fun of you, and you’ll move on.)

The board’s predictability aside, I agree 100% that pistachios are awesome, but I wonder how much of that is the salt. I do know that I only want the ones that can be opened with your fingers, not the ones you have to split yourself. And, yeah, if you get shelled ones, it really is hard to stop.

A tip I picked up from this board - use an already opened pistachio shell as a tool to open the tough ones. If there’s even the slightest crack, you’ll be able to wedge the tip of the shell in there and twist it open.

So it’s just like an M-16 and a 5.56 round - the only tool you need to open a pistachio is another pistachio.

Costco sells them without the shells. Yummy and fattening.

What, have you actually read any threads in this place?

(By the way, that means “yes, dissenting opinions are fine, and in fact actively encouraged, as long as you’re civil about it, and stick to the subject matter as opposed to directly insulting other posters”. At least that’s my experience around here.)
