I love the North Korean News Agency

Am I the only the only one that enjoys reading the KCNA?

The news stories are fun, insightful, and my primary source for news around the world. Their focus on Asia and how the West has corrupted Korea is fascinating. I had no idea we were so bad and I regret having ever been born as an American. If only I could go back in time and force myself to be born in Korea, I would be so much more a complete individual than I am now.

Did you know an “organ” once tried to push a business out and use their store front as an office? I wonder what “organ” it was?

Anyone have any other wonderful artciles from the KCNA?

I didn’t know this web site existed. Interesting stuff. I see they’ve made progress in addressing malnutrition in the country.

What’ll they think of next?

I just love love love how those news reports are so close to actual English, and yet there’s a certain Stalinist awkwardness in every sentence.

But it is always reassuring to know how North Korea is just achieving things right and left!

“Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) – The Workers’ Party of Korea is the party which has become an ideologically pure organization and an organizationally integral whole and achieved perfect unity in action…”

What with all their unity in action, they should form a soccer team!

Oooh, sensitive subject…

Interesting to see the progress of libraries (or at least the Grand People’s Study House):

That sounds like very modest acquisition rates for a small public library in the west. The Grand People’s Study House is the national library of North Korea!

Probably the penis, it’s such a dick.

How soon until someone starts a fansite, along the lines of “I Love the Iraqi Information Minister”?

By the way, to link to an article, display only the frame of the article to get the actual link for any individual article.

I love the news stories that make it sound like Kim Jong Il is somehow involved in minute details of running factories and businesses. Like, this dude is involved in every aspect of life in North Korea.

Meanwhile, he’s drinking Hennesy every night with his son.

Or did I hear that they blocked the shipments of Hennesy to N. Korea just to piss him off?

Why does the KCNA site have a Japanese domain?

US Secretary of State Hillary? That’s a tad informal. The headline is creative, though.

Could it be because Koreans put their family name first, followed by their given name, and assume the rest of the world does the same.

I am glad to see that yesterday the “Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist)” visited the the Indoor Swimming Pool of Kim Il Sung University. Did they go for a swim, or just to look at it?

And I bet this was a barrel of laughs:-

*Light Comedy “Echo of Mountain” Staged in Chongjin
Pyongyang, September 28 (KCNA) – Light comedy “Echo of Mountain”, a winner of Kim Il Sung Prize, was staged in Chongjin, North Hamgyong Province from Sept. 16 to 27.

Appreciating the performance were officials of party and power bodies and working people’s organizations, working people and youth and students in province.

The officials, working people and youth of the province are dynamically advancing toward a bright future while making their lives worthwhile by performing feats in the gigantic drive for building a thriving nation true to the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il in the same militant spirit as displayed by the people in the era of Chollima.*

I love the idea of blocking imports to NK on the basis on how much it would personally piss off Kim Jong Il.

Red Cross employee: We’re ready the send this container of rubbing alcohol to North Korean with our first aid shipment.
Supervisor: I don’t know, Kim Jong Il might try to drink it.
Employee: OK, how about these sterilized needles?
Supervisor: He might be addicted to heroin.
Employee: Sigh. Surely you have no problems with these bandages?
Supervisor: Halloween is coming soon. He might be planing to dress up as a mummy. And don’t call me Shirley.
Employee: I give up.

The site is a spoof, right?

"Pyongyang, September 28 (KCNA) – Dancing parties of youth and students in Pyongyang were held on Tuesday to congratulate General Secretary Kim Jong Il on his reelection as general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

(-)

Such songs as “Let’s Sing of Our Pride in Being under the Guidance of the General”, “Our General Is the Best” and “Party Represents Care of the General” added to the festive mood.
The youth and students enthusiastically danced to the tune of songs “Do Prosper, Era of the Workers’ Party” and “Let Us Be Satellites of the Sun” with the warmest respects and congratulation to him and their iron faith to devotedly defend the headquarters of the revolution. "

and there’s so much better:

the august 23rd “Story of Kim Jong Il”

In case you are serious…no, it’s actually their news agency’s web site.

It’s pathetic, too. Nearly no graphics at all. Terribly awkward English.

Such obvious propaganda. It’s pathetic really.

I’m not sure if this is better or worse than the official DPRK shop. Yes, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has an official online shop, yes some of the merchandise is labeled ‘propaganda 1’ through ‘propaganda 13’, and yes it is all on a cafe-press site. I wish I could come up with something this funny on my own.

For a country stuck in the stone age, that web site is impressively 1990’s.

In China Hilary Clinton is known as “Hillary” (or the Chinese phonetic transliteration of “Hillary”) and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same was true of the Koreas and other places in Asia.

Early 90’s. Like 1993 or so.

Heck, I just used the internet archive machine to look back at the site in 2002.

It looks identical.
