I love thunderstorms. Right now, I’ve got the front and back doors propped open with the air conditioner and TV turned off, just so I can enjoy the thunder, lightening and rain. The civil defense sirens are going off! Weigh kewl!
Anybody else love thunderstorms? C’mon, there’s gotta be someone else out there!
I enjoy them also. A good storm makes me feel more alive somehow.
It’s storming here now (Atlanta area). I tried to take the dog out before it got too bad, but whoops! big crash of lightning and thunder and she hightailed it back to the house. I guess she’ll have to hold it til it’s over.
I hate thunderstorms 90% of the time, because I worry about what the storm is going to do to my house. High winds, torrential rains, big hail, tornadoes… I can do without that stuff. But when I’m somewhere away from home and I can watch a storm roll in from a safe spot - now that’s totally cool. There’s nothing more awesomely beautiful in nature than a great lightening display, and out on the open plains where you can see the whole supercell coming towards you looking like the flying saucer in Close Encounters - there’s just no beating that.
I’ve always loved a good thunderstorm, but I have to agree with Artemis that owning a home changes your perspective, especially if your roof needs to be replaced.
When we have severe thunderstorms here, I take the pets into the basement and then go back upstairs to watch the storm. I’ve loved them since I was a kid, when my siblings and I would go outside to play in the small lake that formed in our street during bad storms.
There’s also no better lullaby than a gentle thunderstorm.
I also had an incident where lightning struck a power line outside my house and caused a huge fire.
There were sparks flying everywhere and the police had to come. Thank goodness nobody was hurt.
I can understand why people like them, but I’ve spent too often in situations where they cause power disruptions, fires, damage to electrical equipment, spooked-out pets, etc.
I like rainstorms if I don’t need to be out in them, but not thunderstorms.
I like them when I’m safe at home…but 2/3 of our dogs really hate them. The biggest dog…an 80 pound Boxer mix…is terrified of thunder, and wants to be a lap puppy when it happens. The puppy is slightly braver, but she seems to be taking cues from the Boxer…instead of the other dog, who doesn’t seem to care, and will cheerfully go out to pee in the rain.
I love thunderstorms, too - I am aware of how dangerous they can be, so I don’t stay out in them, but I’d really love to.
I also love a good thunderstorm in the middle of the night - I’m not sure why. I guess I like being snuggled up safe in my bed, and hearing the weather raging outside.
Absolutely love 'em. I spent last night sleeping on the couch with the huge door to the sun room wide open so I could watch the light show and listen to the thunder and pouring rain on the roof. Enjoyed it until I fell asleep and slept like a baby.
Nothing more relaxing. (and yes I live in an area that gets its fair share of tornadoes… my basement is a few quick steps away.)
I love thunderstorms but because of my living situation for the past 25ish years, I’ve only been able to encounter them like…twice maybe It’s ridiculous. Stupid west coast and their stupid boring weather. I grew up in NC so I saw a LOT of thunderstorms. I loved the ones with the red lightning. It makes me sad to know I might never see another one again.
My weird experience with a thunderstorm:
There’s a thunderstorm going on outside. Hidden away in my closet is one of those cheap hand held video poker games. I hadn’t touched the thing in years. Well, somehow the storm outside managed to turn the game on as I could hear the music emanating from my closet.
Weird. I wonder how close I came to getting struck by lightning?
But yeah, I love a good thunderstorm. Especially around bedtime.
Wow XD That doesn’t seem to be the most responsible vacation for a single mother to take. Alone or with my kid lol I’ll just sit in my room and pine wistfully for the days of yore.
I love them at the beach. Sitting on the balcony of the timeshare at Depoe Bay and watching the lightning illuminate the waves crashing against the cliffside, while the thunder, wind and thrashing water create a symphony that far surpasses anything Bach or Beethoven could ever have dreamed of.
