I absolutely love them. Our house looks over a small acreage of hills and trees, facing west. So living in eastern Connecticut, we get to see huge thunder storms rolling in… I love it. The air pressure changes, the calm ensues and then the rain begins. You can see the lightning and then the rolling, divine bowling game begins. I love’em.
When I lived in **Arizona ** - you could see large monsoonal thunderstorms looming over the mountains around Phoenix. They’d loom there all day, then in the evening they’d move in, the insides would light up like massive fireflies and they rush in for about an hour. Drench the place, and leave the desert smelling like honey when they were through. It’s safe to say, I love weather.
Though we only spend about a quarter of the year in AZ anymore, here in CT things can get mighty rough in the autumn months, specially if we have a good hurricane season.
I like thunder storms that aren’t terribly bad.
I like watching the lightning and the way it patterns in the sky.
I like hearing the rain hit hard on the street or the roof of our house.
I like the smell of rain if that makes sense…
I love the feel the breeze the develops during a mild storm and many times I have sat on our screened-in porch listening and watching the storms.
I love a thunder storm at night. I sleep like a baby through the crashing and banging.
Sometimes I sit outside on the porch and watch them blow up thier furry. The wind is kicking and the trees are swaying. Wonderful. Truly it is the finest of elemental battles, when the lightning gets flashing and the rain coming down so hard one can’t see the front yard.
I’ve never understood adults who are still afraid of them. I mean come on, get over your silly childisness and enjoy the show!
I enjoy thunder storms. We get some good ones roaring across the prairies. Unfortunately, the last several years have been a little quiet.
My wife and I will sit outside on the porch and just watch the show. If it gets too bad to be outside, we’ll go inside but open some windows to get the full effect.
Love them. We don’t get them very often in Ireland, so when they do occur, it’s quite a big deal (for me anyway). The best ones I’ve ever seen have been in Tennessee (a tree near me blew up) and Hong Kong (my house got flooded. Great storm though!).
I love them!!
The unpredictability, the smell, the breeze, the rain, the sound, the reflections made by the lightning… I love the rhythm of the whole storm itself.
It truly is the most passionate act of nature!
count me in too. But I like anything that goes boom. We’ve had a few good ones this year; real window shakers. The best I’ve seen were out over the Atlantic, just lighting up this enormous cloud bank with pinks and oranges.
I love 'em too. My girlfriend and cat tend to hide out in the basement, but the dog goes wherever I go. The last big storm we had though, the dog and I were out playing in the back yard (before the rain started) and a huge lightning bolt hit somewhere nearby. BOOOOOOOOM!!! The dog jumped about 3 feet in the air, and gave me a look of sheer terror. . .I was just all smiles and laughing at him, which immediately eased his nerves. The lightning was starting to get a little close, so we went inside shortly thereafter
I think storms are great. Unfortunately, most of my in-laws are . . . meteorphobic? Well, that’s probably fear of meteors, but you know what I mean. If it gets the least bit cloudy, everybody goes running to the television, and if there’s any kind of watch or warning reported within a hundred miles of us, they go running for the shelter . . . and usually want to bring me as well.
But anyway, bitching aside . . . yes, storms are great. I love them.
o, for the feel of the wind that comes before the storm. one of the best winds there is. i swear, i walked down the street one day when such a wind was blowing, and i left as if i could easily sprout wings and fly if i wanted to badly enough.
I love thunderstorms. Growing up in Louisiana, we’d get terriffic hurricanes. The whole family would wait until we were in the eye, then go out to the front porch to watch to enjoy the breeze.
Now in Massachusetts, we only get a few really good boomers a year, but that makes them all the more special. My two year old loves them too - we stand at the back screen door and watch the rain pour off of the downspout.
The only time I was truly afraid of the weather was when I lived in Columbia, SC. Those storms just seemed more violent to me, and much, much more frequent.
Here in Chicago we had a real DOOZY yesterday. It went on for hours, beginning around 2:00 am or so. The lightning was so constant it actually appeared to be a giant strobe light in the sky. The thunder claps were loud and unending. Surprisingly, the kitties didn’t freak out at all. I adore a storm.
I love them too. I grew up on a lake, which made for a nice unobstructed view of the storms rolling in. If it was hailing, we used to run outside with ice cream buckets on our heads (What was my mother thinking?) Water can do wild things in storms.
