I’m with you, McUne – I also love Mexican food, and in fact any spicy cuisine. I, too, need to compromise with my wife on this – she gets turned off food by the very smell of pepper. It makes for interesting meals, sometimes…
So, what do they eat in Atlanta? (d&r)
I’m back from the Peace Rally in memory of Yitzhak Rabin. I was quite touched; I even considered asking **Dotty **to let me have Monday, but decided against – the kids are more important
Wanna have the next Monday, SO? It’s open. Rabin was shot the weekend my niece was baptized. We were all shocked and depressed.
I just came in from pulling out all the plants that won’t make it through a frost. I’ve potted up a bunch of begonias and several other primarily purple plants. I’m still figuring out where they’re going to live. They’re currently on my kitchen floor.
I just turned on the TV to see if the Michigan-Michigan State game was on and - lo and behold! - there it was. MSU was losing 14-10 when I started watching and they just made an amazing play that resulted in a touchdown. Hopefully, we can hold on to the lead.
I like somewhat spicy food, but not when it’s so hot that you don’t notice that there’s flavor. And no, it’s not because I’m (half) Mexican. My grandma learned to cook French (it’s an upper-middle class Mexico City thing), so we didn’t eat all that much traditional Mexican food. Or when we did it was toned down. Although there were always corn tortillas on the table.
Woo hoo! Another touchdown!!! Somewhere under 9 minutes to go. It’s hard to type when all your appendages are crossed.
Dinner was spinach-ricotta-asiago ravioli with the last basil and tomatoes from the garden. Yum. And for dessert, Quaker Oatmeal Squares (a new addiction - cinnamon flavored is yum.)
Trying to figure out what I’m doing tonight. I’m thinking a bit of reading after the game is over.
I managed to do almost nothing today. Went grocery shopping, cleaned a couple bathrooms and vacuumed. I didn’t even open the work I brought home to finish. I can do that tomorrow - Wife is going to a baby shower.
We have a party at a neighbor’s tonight. A Parrothead party. Flowery Hawaiian shirts, cargo shorts and a cap. The things I won’t do for beer.
I forgot to mention that tomorrow is brunch (though with church gettin’ over around 11:45 A.M. it’s more like lunch) Sunday at church. I did manage to make up a chicken & broccoli casserole (not exactly chicken divan) a little earlier that will be cooked upon my arising from sleep tomorrow.
Speaking of sleep, I took a nap. Guess I’ll be up a while yet. Plans are to be in bed by midnightish (remember we Amurrkins set our clocks back tonight) so I think that’ll work. Someway, somehow, I gotta get back on third shift ( which I HATE!!! in case y’all haven’t noticed) by tomorrow night cause I’ll need to stay up as late as possible so’s I can sleep durin’ the day Monday… GRRRRRRRRRR!!! DANG THIRD SHIFT!!!
In the mean time, think I’ll go mess around the Dope for a bit.
I thought **Dotty ** was going to do Monday - didn’t she say she was getting photos of HRH ready for the next MMP??
And I think I need to retract my statement about not liking Mexican. We went to a place I read about on a local restaurant site. They had a huge menu, the place didn’t have the overwhelming smell of the spices I dislike, and I discovered that shrimp quesadillas are yummerrific! Not spicy at all, but the shrimps were cooked with onions and served all cheesy between a couple of tortillas. I was pleased. And there looked to be maybe a couple of other dishes I might like. So **FCD ** is happy and I’m glad to have found a way for us to go to a restaurant that he really likes.
Oh, and the flan was especially good, too.
And after we ate, we ran a few errands, but now we’re in the chill mode.
As in Republic of Georgia? I almost went there for the Peace Corps. (That’s before I went crazy)
Grrr… The only reason that I’m awake right now is because the Mickster broke through the baby gate and scratched on my door. Now my back is hurting from being in bed so much today. (Alone, too :dubious: )
Yes, I’m pretty sure she was (didn’t she and your Mom talk about Jeopardy when they met? I think that’s how I know about MamaT having been on…) Your Mom should also go out to that site, though. (They’re not just looking for Dopers who are former contestants.
:D)
Good luck Dotty on your first day back to work! Try not to worry about HRH too much. {{{HUGS}}}
A Happy Belated birthday to FCD - sorry that I missed it yesterday! Glad to hear that you found a Mexican restaurant that you’ll be able to enjoy eating at too, FCM.
I’ve been lazing about all day too like Swampy - isn’t that awful?! Now I’ve got to run all my errands on Sunday.
I’m an adventurous sort, food wise. My lunch bunch at work is always teasing me, because I’ll try just about anything. Last week, for instance, I had an Ethnic Gourmet frozen dinner of tandoori chicken (which I’d had before and found a bit on the spicy side). I’d brought a container of Fage yogurt - that’s the Greek strained yogurt - and was eating it with the tandoori chicken. BTW, that greek-style yogurt is soooo good; it was like eating sour cream, except it was yogurt! I prefer plain yogurt to the fruit-flavored ones; I add my own fruit. A while ago, I tried a Thai curry dish, but it was too spicy for me. There are very few things I haven’t tried–sushi, though, remains on that list. I don’t really care for fish and probably wouldn’t like it, although I have tried the non-fishy stuff.
Anyways, I’ve got to go grocery shopping tomorrow as well as make a run to both the library and Target, so better get to bed soon.
