…though I’m getting pretty close. Maybe I will before Tuesday, who knows?
But, NEway, I’m leaving for bootcamp Tuesday, and then going to do other training, so, likely, the next time I’ll be going online will be in about a year. So, before I go, I figure I need to give a few days for people who would like to confess their deep passion for my sexiness. Or, in case you’re the rare individual who doesn’t blush at the thought of my hemi-demi-godliness, you could give a nice farewell, and good luck, and all that-I suppose that would be acceptable. Yes, yes, I know I’m being generous, but, hey, I wanna leave on a good note. So, on that thought, you can begin your praises.
I’m not much for dishing out praise, but I do wish you well as you head off to bootcamp. I wish more people were inclined to serve - I spent 11 years in uniform and enjoyed most of them.
As an aside - I managed to conceal the journal that I kept during my recruit training, and I get such a kick out of reading it all these years later. If you’re so inclined, consider it!
Best to ya!
Good luck! I don’t know you, so I can’t attest to your “hemi-demi-godliness”, but I’m sure you’re a lovely person.
I suppose that since you said “Boot Camp” you are going into the Army? Good for you.
FairyChatMom. What branch did you serve in?
I’m Air Force myself.
Umm… I think they have internet access at bootcamp.
Uh… Not in Air Force basic MadHatter. We were lucky if we got Gatorade, (a one time occurence btw), let alone a computer to use.
Even in Tech School, (I’m a programmer), our security was so tight that any outside access was a freaking joke.
Have fun and good luck. Now drop and give me 20 you worthless maggot.
Just gettin’ ya ready for the many, many, many drill instructors that you will cross paths with!!
Where are you going for basic? What’s your MOS going to be? Where’s IET going to be?
Advice: Remember it’s all a mind game (except for the PT, that’s really real.)
Simetra
I was Navy - 6 years enlisted, 5 years commissioned. And I’ve worked for the Navy as a civ since '85 - so it totals 26+ years. I wouldn’t trade any of those years for anything.
inertia, gonna be in Missouri, MOS is 98XL, and IET’s in Monteray.
Thanks everyone for your good luck wishes; gonna need it. The main thing I’m worrying about is whether I’ve prepared myself enough for it. and the plane ride. Never flown before, and slightly afraid of heights; this is gonna be interesting. ah, well, gotta fly sooner or later.
You got Gatorade?!?! Lucky bastard! When I went through BMTS in Lackland, we considered it lucky for a black flag day. (For all you civvies, that’s when it’s too hot outside to do any physical training)
CrunchyFrog. We got gatorade because we were honor flight and had 9 honor graduates in our flight. That’s the only reason.
I went to BMT in March/April, and that sucked. 34 in the morning, not cold enough to ever call off P.C., and 92 in the afternoon. Only hot enough for the red flag, which meant we still had to drill.
What did you do in the Air Force CrunchyFrog? AFSC?
FairyChatMom, I’m trying to become an OE myself with the Airman Education and Commission Program. I’d love to be an officer.
teppei: Don’t worry about flying–you don’t have a sensation of height. (I won’t get into turbulance, however.)
Good luck…and thanks for serving our country, you and the other military folks here.
When I saw the title of this thread, thought “Wow, another whiner complaining about SMDB. Go to the Pit and bitch.”
Glad I was wrong. Been enjoyable having you online, Teppei. You’ll hit 100 before Tuesday, no problems. And if not, I’m sure the mods will keep the light on for you.
Good luck
Well, sweetie, whatever happens, I wish you well.
And, if you DON’T end up with internet access, I am sure that we will hear from you somewhere down the line.
This place is addictive, didn’t anyone warn you?
So, happy 100. Whenever you get there.

Good luck, tep, you hemi-demigod you. I wish you the best.
teppei, good luck on your training. When you get through it Monterey will be worth it. At least it was to me. I went there for the language training twenty-five years ago.I was a 98G2LKP, a Korean linguist. I had a barracks room that let me overlook Monterey Bay, quite a sight for a trainee raised smack dab in the middle of the country.
Hey, Tep, I’ll give you ten thousand SPOOFE points if, at some point during your training, you ask your commanding officer “How do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?”
That’s the largest score of SPOOFE points I’ve ever offered anyone, and I don’t think I’ll ever offer it again (but, just so you know, SPOOFE points are worthless, even as novelty items).
You’re doing a brave thing. I can’t even do one push-up, and I have tried for years. (Even with all those legs.) Anyway, good luck to you, and I hope you will come back after basic training is over!

MOS? IET? BMTS? Let’s be fair and rename this thread “Confuse the civilian”
teppei, the very best of luck in basic training. Don’t let anyone push you around. Stand up for your rights. If anyone yells at you, you just yell right back at them. Tell them that running is for sissies and you’re not gonna do it - if they like running and stuff so much let them do it! (this is probably not the best advice for bootcamp, is it? :))
I’m sure you’ll stumble across a computer every now and again - be sure to at least drop by and let us know how you’re doing.
BTW, flying is GREAT. Once you’re up in the air, you really don’t realize you’re flying. If you feel secure enough to look out the window - do it! You don’t notice height, you get too absorbed in how neat and different everything looks from up there. You’ll love it.
Good luck, tepster. As a nine-plus year vet I can assure you of two things: basic is gonna suck, and it will eventually end. I count my years as a soldier among the best thus far and even convinced my son to enlist. He’s currently serving in Germany.
Go get 'em, soldier. It’s a brave thing you do, and my hat is off to you for electing to serve. Let us know how you’re doing when you have the chance.
