I assume you mean the Rose & Crown. I have consumed many a beer at RC’s - should be fun.
You may also like to check out the Ship & Anchor if you’re a pubbie type person.
If you want to go with the cowboy theme, Desparado’s is a fun time. Ceasar’s is a really good place to go for a steak. (Gotta love that Alberta Beef).
And, because the weather is going to be nice, you could check out Eau Clair Market, and Princess Island Park - Shakspere in the Park is still going on I think.
I meant if I’d be pissed if I couldn’t get out to Calgary.
(I’ve been planing this for a couple of weeks, and since flights have been few and far between and not very cheap, I’ve had to keep putting it off. Fingers crossed for this weekend.)
Well, there are flights out to Calgary as of this morning, and they are cheap!
That’s the first step.
Now to see about booking it and gettig the time off.
[sub](I know no one probably cares about this, but I’ve never been out west and I am very excited!!!)[/sub]
MaxO, you’re right to be excited. The West is a great place to be.
If you like the sports bar kinda thing, Schanks (down south or in the north) is a good activity bar. They have golf simulators, mini golf, lots of riding racing games (motorcycles, boats, that kinda stuff), and about 50 tv’s with a different game on each one, it seems. Oh yeah, they have beer, too; try some of the Big Rock brands while you’re in town (Traditional, Warthog) - you can also tour the brewery for free, I believe (and yes, they do give you samples).
Hey, if everyone’s meeting up for a night on the town, let me know the when and where’s, okay? (And how to recognize you so I don’t go up to a group of strangers and ask them if they’re dopers. :D)
How long are you going to be in town? If you have a few extra days I’d recommend a wee side trip to the mountains (obviously), but also my favourite (and often overlooked) part of Southern Alberta, the Badlands around Drumheller. I just took a friend from Halifax there the other day and he totally loved it.
The weather is unseasonably beautiful right now, it’s excellent patio weather. You’ll have a great time.
Don’t spend two nights in a row at the R & C, I’d recommend the Ship and Anchor (about half a block west of the Rose and Crown) The food is better (and cheaper!) and I just like it much better. There. That’s my biased local opinion.
In two weeks I will be moving to a place within sight of the Ship (well, across the street basically) I’m never going to do anything productive again after that, I am sure of that.
The film festival is also going on this weekend, so if you are a movie buff you might enjoy a bit of that.
Miss Gretchen is right, you know. The Ship & Anchor sucked away many of my youthful hours.
Of course she’s right. Female Canadian Doper from Alberta, and all.
If you’re there tonight, I’ll be wearing blue tear-away pants, black shoes, blue shirt. I will probably have my “Player’s Racing” jacket with me. My hair is brown with blond streaks, and I’ll be wearing my sun glasses on my head. Drop by and say Hi!
Oh, I’ll more than likely be sitting at the bar. = )
