I miss the quick reply box.

testy testy

Testing, one two…

Testing my sig - I forgot what it is!

Okay, I’ll try this again.

If I try to post in the quick reply box that is after the last post in the thead, when I hit “post quick reply” or “go advanced” I get a sign that says “undefined”. What does that mean, and why can’t I post from the last box?
I can only use the regular “reply” button or post in someone else’s post, but I can’t “quick reply” for myself.

Why?

:orgasm:

Either a very clever use of vB or a very hilarious misunderstanding by vB

Just tried to duplicate your situation, ageless, but I’m typing in the Quick Reply box just fine.

What browser are you using, by chance? Operating system?

Are you clicking the little doohickey next to the regular reply button? Then you type in the box, then you hit post quick reply.

Yes, and this is where it takes me; to your post rather than let me post in the quick reply box. If I type in the box and then hit post quick reply, it gives me a box that says “undefined”, whatever that means.

Which means that I have to use another poster’s post to post in, or use the regular reply button.

And Tuba, I’m still using WEBTV+.

Interesting. I like.

Hey! You guys hear about this new ‘quick reply’ box thing… oh… wait…

test

Gotta give this a test…

A little nonsense now and then

Cool.

Hmmm. I has to be “activated”.

Velly interrrrrresting.

On another interesting note, the lead singer of Duran Duran is performing on Regis and has a very odd crotch in his jeans. Now, I don’t spend a great deal of time staring at men’s crotchs but that thing is just strange.

Which is your problem, I’m sorry to say. Emphasis on the “you.”

Neither vB nor Jerry the Tech God has much sympathy for you, I’m afraid; their attitude has been and continues to be if you’re going to use something outside of IE, you takes your chances. This is especially true of marginalized stuff like Web TV.

I’m sure you had plenty good reasons for making that choice and I’m not judging or second guessing you here, but you need to understand they’re just not going to be overly sympathetic to your situation. It’s that old “greatest good for the greatest number” deal; if we had 1000 Web TV customers, it would be a different story, I’m sure. But we don’t.

I’m sorry you’re having difficulties.

I too am having problems, using a text-based browser that I wrote myself with an old Fortran compiler on a government discarded WANG. When Jerry gets time, could you have him rewrite everything?

Is there a way we could get one of those ‘activate’ buttons down here next to the Quick Reply box? It seems like I’ll most often use this by just scrolling down to the bottom, then I’ll remember that I need to activate and have to scroll up to the last post to click the thing.

Even if that’s not possible, it’s still great to have the box back.

Anyone else notice that you can close the Quick Reply thingy? Just click the 'up-carets-in-a-circle button on the right end of the blue bar. Then all you’ll see is the blue bar in all the threads, if you happen to not like having the box between the end of the thread and the forum pulldown list.

Seems like if you don’t want to quote a specific message, then you can just pick the Quick Reply box from the last post in the thread, and not tick off “Quote message in reply”

Do you keep statistics on browser usage for SDMB readers? IE is down to 85% market share, and I suspect it is much lower in this population. I’ve never had a problem with either Mozilla or Firefox, but I hope changes are at least tested on something other than IE.

nice. would be even better with a preview though, if it’s not too much trouble.

Well, Tuba, I did have a good reason for using webtv in that the box and keyboard were given to me by relatives who still also pay the monthly fees. I didn’t expect to like going on line so much, and now I can’t imagine not doing it at least a couple of times a day. I know nothing about real computers and the thought of learning them now exhausts me, not to mention the fact that money is very tight right now.

I’m quite disappointed about not being able to use the quick reply. It worked fine for me before and I assumed…oh, never mind. That’s just the way it goes, I guess.
