I Need A Lot of Gift Suggestions For My Wife

Honestly I’ve gotten her so much jewelry she could outfit the Oscars. That’s done. And now here comes Mother’s Day and, of course, her birthday’s a week after that. And I need to figure out gifts for both.

I’ve secured a cute mug for Mother’s Day “from” the kids and her cards will have Itunes gift cards in them 'cause she needs that but, dammit, the woman has everything.

Just throw some ideas at me, bearing in mind

  • Anything ludicrously expensive is out. Travel is also not really an option right now.
  • Experiences can be a thing, though.

Just spitball here. Go!

Gift certificate for a spa. That’s always worked for me (with women. Not a wife, which I don’t have).

High end chocolate, dinner out somewhere lavish, weekend in Niagara wine tasting ( I know you said no travel but an hour and a half car ride doesn’t seem that extreme…) with accommodations here. Flight over Lake Ontario in a DC-3 from theAir Museum with a picnic lunch at Dundurn Castle.

Random thoughts that I know would appeal to some people and leave others completely cold, and many will be n/a:

Art.

Donate to something in her name.

Get specific pictures blown up or framed or somethinged so they can be part of an attractive display at home or at her work.

Get her car cleaned/detailed.

Hanging flowers for the deck/porch.

Professional dog grooming to get rid of some fluff.

Craft supplies/tools/storage.

Dinner someplace unusual/fancy, maybe a tasting menu.

Wine/beer/whiskey/chocolate/olive oil tasting.

Culinary tour.

Tickets to an MLB game? (Good seats!)

Date night. Dinner and a movie. Last week Ivylad and I went to our local aquarium and rode the Orlando Eye. We had dinner at Shake Shack.

A hot air balloon ride could be nice. Depending on your interests, you could see a sporting event, go roller skating or bike riding, or take a picnic to your local park.

  • Nice fluffy bathrobe (I got one for my dad years ago and he wears it every day)
  • A plush throw blanket (I got one of these for Christmas and they rock for curling up on the couch!)
  • Pro pictures of the kids, outdoors not in a studio (even if they are adults) (especially if they are adults)
  • A box of candy from the decade she was a kid or teen (random example)
  • A few months of a subscription box (here’s a list that ships to Canada)
  • A one-time deep cleaning from any local house cleaning service. You and the kids will do the set-up/prep, of course.

For Mothers Day this weekend, I bought my wife a Green Monster fish light. Does your wife already have one of those?

Some good ideas here… a lot of the destination tour ideas I’ll save for later holidays abd events. Hard to get far with a 5-month-old puppy;l those will be easier in 2018 and beyond. But very good ideas so far, thank you. I won’t say which ones I like most 'cause I appreciate them all.

I did come up with a pretty solid one literally two minutes after posting this; she loves escape rooms, so I’ve booked us into one close by. I need a few more tho, so let me stew on these. Keep 'em coming!

Dinner theater.

Magazine subscription.

Did you ask her?

Mother’s day? Her birthday?

Keep with the theme and give her a baby, or at least rent one for the day for her.

Of course. She is self-admittedly awful at that sort of thing, though. Her only idea was iTunes gift cards.

I clean professionally, and have detailed cars as well. We’ve had people contact us to have us clean the house for their wife, or to have her car detailed. Not in some time, as we no longer take one time customers, but in the past it was a hit.

I know that I could give more suggestions if I knew more about her. What does she like to do in her spare time? Maybe there’s some sort of accessory or item that would add to her fun. Are there any tv shows or movies or musicians that she particularly likes? Maybe you could find some original piece of memorabilia from one of those. There’s always food, my wife really started liking ginger last year so I bought her all kinds of ginger stuff from dried ginger to pickled ginger to ginger balm for her birthday and she liked that. Maybe a book on some subject that she likes?

If the OP has a dog he better by 2 plush throw blankets ! My sister send me one for a gift and my dog said it was his from the get go !
If the OP wife like to work in a garden he could get some flowers for his wife for mother day.

Agree on that being a good choice.

Does she like cooking gadgets or not? Kitchenaid mixer, electric pressure cooker, etc.? Is she practical does she like fun stuff? Do you regularly get carpets cleaned and if not, would she like that (with you doing the pick-stuff-up beforehand, not her)?

Bluetooth or wifi speakers for her to play music from portable device? Shower speakers seem popular, though I never spent enough time there to care about that.

If she likes crafting, something for that. Plants if she likes gardening. Game or gift card for game the same if she likes gaming.

Would she like any kind of patio chair or Adirondack chair for hanging out outside?

I don’t know your budget - is something like a recliner at all something she’d like? A heated mattress pad (okay, so that’s more a winter gift)?

Tickets to a local-ish museum. If you can find a themed one she’d enjoy, all the better. For example, though Cape Cod is a bit of a drive from here, I have plans to visit the Whydah Pirate Museum with a fellow pirate enthusiast, this summer. And last summer we drove up to the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine, and in the fall of 2014 and spring of 2015 we went to several small museums in Salem, Massachusetts with my mom.

Does she have a nice flashlight?

Well, not much, to be honest. She likes to go on walks. She has shoes.

She loves cards, but we have everything you need in that regard. Top of the line playing cards. Chips. The works. (A trip to a casino is already in the works.)

I deliberately didn’t say what she likes because with regards to things she likes we mostly have that stuff. However, I’ve already planned a few gardening things, so things are shaping up.

Gourmet dinner at home.

A chef friend does this. Basically, he designed the menu and gave me the shopping list. He prepared and served the six course meal, then left quietly while we lingered over dessert by candlelight. My gf loved the meal and the entire concept. I did the dishes (and there were dishes!!)

As “payment” I made a donation ($150) to the ACLU, but I guess most chefs would prefer cash.
