What would be a French phrase as nearly equivalent to “bitch magnet” (I know, I know…don’t ask, it’s an art project). Thanks in advance.
try http://www.babelfish.com for al your translation needs.
Babelfish tends to do… interesting… things to colloquialisms. Of course, that may be desireable.
aimant de la garce
Must keep current with hip developments. Had to use Google to learn what “Bitch Magnet” was…
Handy’s translation is a bit litteral, but close to the mark. I would say something like “attire garce”, although I’m not particularly satisfied with it. I’m sure there’s a better argotic equivalent dans les milieux branchés in France.
aimant de chienne
This is the quickest way to go for 5 common languages:
Better than Babblefish, to my mind. Fewer levels of menus.
I have it in the Links at the top of my browser, I use it so often.
It will translate a word, phrase, paragraph, or an entire web page (just submit the url- as you travel the links, succesive pages are translated automatically.
langour: Like Sunspace said, translation programs can often give too-literal results. Chienne means “female dog”, which is, indeed, one meaning of “bitch”. However, I would assume that the answer that Torgo is looking for would involve the second meaning of “bitch”, i.e., a slang and somewhat derogatory term for a female person.
languor: babelfish does everything translator does. They even use the same program, Systran. And I have babelfish bookmarked so I don’t have to deal with any menus. the babelfish URL is babelfish.altavista.digital.com. I don’t understand how translator is better in any way other than having a shorter URL. Can you enlighten me?
