I need some new tunes, man!

They seem to be flying under everyone’s radar. It’s unfortunate.

I should also point out that the horn section they have playing with them in all those live videos are The Dap Kings of Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings.

I like “Plastic Cup,” I don’t care for “Thrift Shop.” Maybe I’ll give it another go and see if it grows on me.

Imelda is AMAZING!

Some other suggestions:
Alabama Shakes

Jason Isbell

TV on the Radio

Oops, missed this one - I love “Taper-Jean Girl” and “Sex on Fire” - the band look like a bunch of massive douchebags, but I like the song.

Shock To Your System - Tegan and Sara

I Am Not Waiting Anymore - Field Report

White Winter Hymnal - Fleet Foxes

I listen to the second two almost every day.

The Gaslight Anthem.

Specifically their first albums. Their latest one, Handwritten, is a little too mellow for me. But their older stuff? Incredible.

Two recent albums I think are really good:

The New Pornographers - ‘Together’
Sloan - ‘The Double Cross’

You’re probably familiar with his brother’s work, but Simon Townshend has been making some pretty decent pop music himself over the last couple of decades. Here’s a live set from September of last year: Simon Townshend: Electric Friends in San Francisco

This is fucking awesome.

Yup, that’s not for me. I like singers who can actually sing.

My shopping list so far:

The Libertines
Here Come The Mummies - Ra Ra Ra
Brand New Heavies
AC Newman
The Sheepdogs
The Courteeners
OK Go - A Million Ways
Gaslight Anthem - Great Expectations, Here’s Looking at You, Kid
Atomic Fireballs - Man With The Hex
Midnight City - M83
Warpaint - Warpaint
The Lumineers
Of Monsters and Men
Black Joe Lewis
Kings of Leon - Tallahina Sky

Thanks so much, everyone! This’ll keep me listening for quite a while!

Some of you might enjoy this - The Dudes - Girl Police. Another Calgary band (Tegan and Sara are also hometown girls) - my husband knows the lead singer, Danny Vacon. He is apparently the best natural athlete Jim has ever seen in his 25 years coaching baseball.

Two out of three ain’t bad - I liked the first and last songs, but not the Field Report. Once again, a lead singer who can’t sing just doesn’t do it for me.

That band sounds really familiar - I thought I had some of their songs already, but maybe I just saw them on David Letterman and thought I should get some of their songs. They are also going on the list.

Alright, fine, they’re on the list, too.

Sorry, he’s not making the list.

The Cat Empire - On my way

The Cat Empire - Wine song

The Constellations - Perfect Day (explicit version)

The Constellations - Felicia

Band of Horses - cigarettes wedding bands

Band of Horses - The Funeral

butthole Surfers - Pepper

The Nails - 88 lines about 44 women

The Jim Carroll Band - People who died

Sorry, I forgot to come back again - I LOVE the Butthole Surfers! I have a handful of their songs, and I’m thinking about going whole hog and buying an entire album! I have some Cat Empire already, too - not bad. I will be looking into the rest of your list, QuickSilver.
