I picked out your gift to my son, your godson. The cheapest one: €1500 (aprox. $2200)

jimm - Here’s a picture of your pony. His name is Peanut. Please send check or money order immediately.

That is a cute pony. Is it evil? It must be evil.

Looks pretty evil to me. Can we see its face? Unbearable cuteness would mean absolute evil.

I agree completely that this was an appalling request, based on a shallow relationship and that your sister should get out as soon as possible.

It’s wrong on so many levels - demanding an incredible amount, dictating what the gift should be, exploiting your sister’s sincerity and establishing a lifetime of financial blackmail (you gave us $2000 last time - now it’s his next birthday, so we want more money!).

:rolleyes: :smack:

I wonder if the parents might have seen this thread or someone else told them they were being unreasonable? They didn’t sound like the type to realize this on their own.
Cute pony!

No way in hell they saw this thread. I have really no more new information as my sister clams up on this issue. Here’s my take on things:

1 - Toddler’s parents tell my sister they expect my family to offer a €1500 room (I still can’t believe this happened either);
2 - My sister shares the request with my parents; They’re shocked but agree to pay. (Can I say STUPID right here? They REALLY didn’t think this was alright, yet and despite my best efforts to sway them they still go ahead and agree… baaah);
3 - My sister phones the mom of the child and tells her they’d do it, though they’re not happy and are not to be expected to do this ever again. This conversation probably got sour.
4 - The next morning my sister gets a message saying ‘didn’t like your phone conversation, forget about the money’. I’m guessing the child’s mother’s sister offered to pay for it herself, either that or they didn’t care much about the money… Hmm…
5 - Nothing more, just to say my sister now finds them despicable and isn’t talking to anyone about what happened.

BTW, I came to know that my parents needed to give her the money the very next day to the request, so it could be ready by the birthday. Talk about pressure.

I’m confused - where the fuck do you go to buy a room? Is there a room store or something?

Also, I have a huge craving for some Irish soda bread right now. I am going to have to go get some later, and a bowl of lamb stew as well.
