I Pit Mr_Hoogly

Thank you. Just got the update on the delay the day before and it’s got my ongoing slow-burning rage about the callous nature of anti-vaxxers to T-1000 melting temps repeatedly. I will now do my best to resume a slow burn verbally and not audibly (textually?) wish harm on others while I seethe on the inside.

In the UK is really is only strongly recommended for the over 65s and those with certain underlying health issues- who get it free. You can opt to pay for it if you’re not in one of those groups, but not everywhere offers it, and you may get asked to wait until all the priority bookings have been dealt with, as they don’t order much for general use unless there’s demand.

Last year I actually gave up on getting a flu jab, as all the local pharmacies were booked up or out of vaccine every time I asked. I think it’s largely managed centrally- if a bad season is predicted, they’ll scale up the annual rollout and push it at more other groups.

The only friends I have who routinely get flu jabs here who aren’t in those priority groups are those working in medical settings, so far as I know.

Anyway, I’m getting my COVID booster this evening, woo!

This year they lowered the age for getting free flu jabs from 65 to 50. I get one every year and have done since getting a bad case of flu years ago, and have not had flu since so perhaps it’s helping.

Oh fair enough. I missed that change, being still a reasonable way under that.

I admit I’ve only had the jab once, having never had it recommended by a doctor, and the local pharmacy practically hid the sign saying they were also available for those not entitled to a free one.

I’ve not had flu yet, neither have either of my parents, so it’s always been a bit of an abstract ‘I’ll probably worry about that in the future’ thing. I should probably see if I can book one locally.

To put this in perspective, imagine that there was a mechanical fault such that every day in the US and average of 150 planes crashed on landing. Would you want to board a plane? After all there is only a one in 300 shot that your plane will be one of the ones that goes down. Suppose that you knew that a student was going to shoot 3 people at your kids high school tomorrow. Would you send him? Heck out of 900 students they’re unlikely to be one of the ones targeted.

The Marines are in on the conspiracy to generate revenue for vaccine producers!

I hate headlines like that. How about: More than 180,000 marines, representing more than 99% of the force, have been vaccinated, as per the mandate.

The article states that the Marines are at 95% vaccinated, the lowest of the 4 branches. The Army and Navy are the highest branches, at 98%, with the Air Force at 97.5%. Those are good numbers to be sure, but separating the unvaccinated is still important news.

I’m not sure I agree. We’re way past imagining that any kind of conciliatory approach to the willfully unvaccinated will be constructive. Fuck them - they need to learn that their stupidity and selfishness will have consequences.

My problem with the headline is that it doesn’t give context to the numbers and makes it look like being unvaccinated is fairly common, and that mandates don’t work. The fact is that mandates DO work and rather than focusing on the few idiots who won’t get vaccinated (and pay the consequences), focus on the vast, vast majority who got vaxxed. They did the same thing with cops in NYC – like 50 were let go out of how many thousands who complied with the mandate.

It seems that most employment mandates are getting approximately 98-99% effectiveness.

I would guess that the 1 - 2% have a fairly high proportion of trouble makers, idiots, poor employees and general fools that others never liked working with anyway. So it’s really a double-win. Employees are vaccinated, and you can rid your organization of the worst people.

Yes, that’s a fair point. How about something like:

95% of Marines are now vaccinated in line with evidence-based mandate, 100 antivax conspiracy theorists kicked out of the service for being ignorant morons unfit for duty.

Yes, much better.

95% of Marines are now vaccinated in line with evidence-based mandate, 100 Hooglys kicked out of the service for being ignorant morons unfit for duty.

I don’t know anyone has died from it, I know one friend of my mums who had to go to hospital that’s it.
I do know two friends and a family member with other diseases whose treatment was halted or compromised because of covid rules and died.
Keep your head up your arse you seem content with it there.

Some examples of ‘the science’

You have to wear a mask in a shop, but not in a pub or nightclub, covid is kiilled by alcohol now is it?

‘the rule of six’ for meeting a complete nonsense and arbitrary number.

Here’s the best one, we’ve just had Christmas, so almost everybody has mixed together the last few days, to inevitably lockdown in January…talk about stupid.

Over 99% of people recover from covid whether jabbed or not.

80% or so of people, in the UK at least, are now jabbed.

Hospitals weren’t overwhelmed when we had no vaccine…so to say that the unvaccinated are overwhelming them now simply cannot be true, can it.

Don’t question anything, good, go along with your lockdown and 10th jabs and a never ending pandemic, just don’t bleat on about conspiracy theories.

Spent a lot of time in hospitals? Work in one?

@Mr_Hoogly , if you dislike the restrictions so much, then why are you working so hard to ensure there will be more restrictions? I hate the restrictions, too. That’s why I’m trying to end them, by getting vaccinated and encouraging others to, and by following the restrictions we do have. Once enough people do that, we’ll beat the disease, and will be able to end the restrictions.

But apparently some folks would prefer that the pandemic never end. I don’t know why you want that, but you clearly do. The restrictions are your fault, @Mr_Hoogly . You, personally, and the people like you.
