So why should younger people get jabbed? You’ve just said yourself most people don’t get a flu jab so why all this storm about this new variant which so far has been very mild?
Vaccine studies and COVID stats analyses are constantly questioning and analyzing the policy recommendations of the people in charge.
And the factual results that they have overwhelmingly found are that vaccines are extremely effective in mitigating the transmission and severity of COVID infection, and that lockdowns are effective temporary emergency measures to prevent overwhelming healthcare systems during times of unchecked COVID community transmission.
Unfortunately, pigheaded anti-science vaccine-denying idiots with their heads up their asses would rather focus on nebulous conspiracy theories and vague suspicions about “people getting rich” and “the government” being untrustworthy.
They’re worse than that and the truth is covid isn’t dangerous at all or require hospitalisation to the vast majority of people it never was and never will be. But trust the science. 2 weeks to flatten the curve. 1 jab, 2 jab, 3 jabs…
Looks like those who aren’t comfortable with the idea of getting a booster shot will soon be able to take a pill instead.
Lots more stinky Hoogly’s being dropped into this thread I see.
Try not to step in the Hoogly.
800,000 dead people in the USA alone would like to have a word with you.
It has killed family, friends and acquaintances of mine, and has physically damaged many more. Why don’t you shut the fuck up, you hateful little troll?
To reduce the transmission and severity of infectious disease, using safe and effective vaccines. Have you really not figured out yet that this is the fundamental issue?
And that public-health organizations support more people getting a flu jab.
Because the new variant is not the only strain of COVID in circulation, because even the new variant is capable of killing people and filling ICU wards at levels which in pre-pandemic times would have been considered a catastrophic crisis, and because increasing vaccination rates reduces future transmission and mutation of the virus to create further variants with additional dangers.
I mean, FFS, dude, this isn’t rocket science. The COVID vaccine is safe and effective in reducing transmission and severity of the disease and making the healthcare impacts of the pandemic far more manageable. As time passes, additional and modified vaccine boosts will be required to maintain immunity levels. But the more people follow the recommended vaccination schedules, the more controllable and less disruptive the pandemic will be.
So for Og’s sake, either get your vaccine or don’t, but stop snivelling about imaginary government “conspiracies” just because you don’t want to face some basic scientific facts.
The point, as has been explained to you time and again, is that COVID is extremely dangerous and healthcare-intensive to A SUFFICIENTLY LARGE MINORITY OF PEOPLE that if left unchecked it will overwhelm healthcare systems and severely disrupt the workings of society.
I mean, are you just completely incapable of understanding statistics, or what? The fact that a new disease “only” kills about one in 300 people and “only” severely sickens about one in 100 is absolutely catastrophic from an overall public-health standpoint in a society that does not have the massive excess healthcare resources required to cope with this additional public-health burden.
… I thought the vaccines were brought to us via the miracle of private enterprise?
Anyway, you are a bore and not really worth pitting. Please don’t respond as I’m unsubscribing from this thread.
I am over 50 and have never known a disease that killed and made more people seriously sick in such a short time. And that is folks I know that I am referring to. For such a mild disease, it sure has caused a lot of serious sickness and death in my little orbit.
Tell that to the doctors and nurses who have to decide who to treat or not when there are NO beds available in their hospital. That’s extremely dangerous to those who don’t have covid but have a serious illness or accident. Or do you believe that isn’t happening either?
Yeah, I mean, it’s pathetic how shortsighted this guy’s perspective is. Like, all he can see is the fact that most people who contract COVID won’t get seriously sick or die from it, and he has absolutely no conception of what it means, public-health-wise, when even a small minority of people DO get seriously sick and/or die from a new disease.
He simply has no conception of the basic math involved in managing healthcare resources, and how even a comparatively small impact from a novel infectious disease can suck up those resources at an exponential rate.
No, it’s just “eh most people don’t get that sick from COVID so it’s nothing to worry about”. He’s a sad comment on the UK education system’s failure to teach fundamental critical thinking skills (although goodness knows we in the US have little to brag about in that regard, considering the number of our own homegrown vaccine-denier idiots).
My father, who is 82, has a 70% blockage of the artery leading into his right ventricle. He was scheduled to have a ‘rotor-rooter’ style cleaning this past week, which is a one night stay in the hospital normally for observation (isn’t medical science amazing?) - but he can’t. Because with variants and the huge number of unvaxxed taking up all the beds, there is no allowance for him to have a hospital bed right now. And a 70% blockage isn’t quiiiiiite up to their emergency standards in the current triage process.
So fuck the Hoogly and all his ilk with a red hot poker the size of baseball bat. With spikes. And razor blades. And a salt water and lemon juice enema for a chaser.
I believe it’s simpler than that. It’s not that he can’t understand the people dying from it. It’s not even that he can’t understand the hospitals getting clogged up and people dying because of that.
No, it’s that he’s the type of narcissistic prick who thinks nothing bad will happen to him or anyone he cares about (but I repeat myself). So he doesn’t give a shit.
He’s one of those types where the only way to get through would be to actually experience the issue firsthand. It has to affect him for him to care.
It’s not surprising: a certain level of narcissism is requires to be a conspiracy nutter. You have to believe you’re special, that you’ve found the truth that eludes all the sheeple. Only things that they directly experience are real.
Sure, the education system of his country failed him in a way, but more in that he didn’t learn critical thinking or humility. (He also lacks empathy, but I genuinely don’t know if it can be taught. If it can, it would probably be by a psychologist and not a teacher. But that’s getting into an area I won’t touch.)
I get a flu shot every year for every “variant”. It’s not a big fucking deal. Jeez.
Most pulls of the trigger don’t kill someone in Russian Roulette, so clearly that game is safe.
Where the hell did he get the idea that people don’t get a flu shot every year? Maybe not everyone does – but you’re sure as hell supposed to! I alway do – in fact, I just got mine today. (And that pharmacist really jabbed me good – my arm’s still sore!)
Sorry to hear about your Dad and I second the hot pocker, etc.
Currently stymied as to who could’ve been a sillier OTIO.
Translation: “I don’t understand science, therefore everyone else is stupid.”
This is because Johnson and his administration are corrupt, incompetent and stupid, not because the science is wrong.
The neat thing about your position is that it allows you to dismiss public sector scientists as promoting a government agenda in a quest for power and private sector scientists as promoting a corporate agenda in a quest for money, based on nothing more than snide insinuations and an assumption that because you’re willing to make up nonsensical bullshit to support your position, everyone else must be too.
Because what this is really about is reinforcing the narrative you keep telling yourself that you’re a truthteller to the sheeple, rather than the selfish, ignorant asshole every post demonstrates you to be.
