I pit my petty, passive-aggressive, occasionally confrontational, bigoted satanspawn of a roommate.

I mean, I suppose calling someone fat while you’re fat isn’t inherently wrong, but what would have happened if I- in my responses to her- called her a fat ass? C’mon, I’d have been mauled like a Hostess cupcake at Jenny Craig.

Ultimately, I couldn’t give two shits if she did call me fat, it’s just funny. I can fix my fat a lot easier than she can fix her stupid, so it works out just as well. I mean, since it’s kosher for us to ad hom each other now. :stuck_out_tongue:

‘People who live in fat houses shouldn’t throw cheeseburgers’ (along with links to posts detailing rachel’s weight and eating habits) isn’t quite as direct as ‘fat ass!’ but it seems like the same sentiment to me. And the only response was some LOLs.

No one would have said or done any of that if she hadn’t gone there first.

Was she, though? I interpreted “the elephants never forget” comment as some people just like to bring up old matters. I didn’t think she was saying the poster was as fat as an elephant. Though maybe I need to go back and reread that post…

true story.

freudian slit, i really don’t see how else it could be interpreted myself when the comment is aimed at a specific poster like that.

Well, as I was unaware of the girth of the object of the slight, I also failed to see it as anything other than a reference to ‘never forgetting’ as in holding a grudge.

The fat houses cheeseburger crack, was pretty obvious however, even to me.

But rachellelogram isn’t the one who said that…

diosa’s made a few references to the fact that she’s overweight in some of her posts. even if you weren’t aware of that, if someone calls someone else an elephant in a less than complimentary way, what do you think that could possibly refer to aside from one’s size? it’s kind of silly to sit here and speculate until the cows come home(see what i did there?) about her intent. we’re not a jury, she’s not going to jail over it.

a couple of people didn’t like my comment, and that’s fine with me, but don’t pretend she didn’t say what she said.

Actually, I just put her on “pause”.

<Silence of the Lambs>“It rubs the lotion on its skin!”</SotL>

Anyone else keep checking back, waiting for The (Inevitable?) Post? The one that goes something like: “I cannot beLIEVE this! I came home and the locks were changed! My stuff is out in the front yard! With that legal, ironclad lease thing sitting on top with a big red X through it!”

But I am glad we’re not hearing from a homeless doper. So despite the lack of drama, I’m relieved.

She hasn’t posted in what, a week now?

I’m not holding my breath.

If she’s homeless, she might not have Internet access, though…

Thanks, I didn’t get that reference.

You’re right. It could be a veiled insult or it could be completely innocent. If only we had any evidence regarding the OP and a willingness to engage in passive aggressive behavior.

I guess it’s true that elephants never forget” makes zero sense unless she’s presupposing that the person she’s addressing is an elephant. It’s a necessary condition of the way she phrased it. (Cf. “I guess it’s true that doctors make more money than cashiers”; “I guess it’s true that men who drive Hummers can’t sustain erections.”) Something like “They say elephants never forget, and I guess you don’t, either,” would have been more ambiguous.

Right, but isn’t it possible that she just misused the cliche? I could be wrong, but it didn’t seem like her aim was to insult her weight. I immediately thought of the old elephant adage after reading that.

How the hell would someone with a BMI of 50 be making a fat joke? Seriously now. I really don’t think that was a snipe at anyone’s weight; I think she just spoke poorly.

Oh, and Hentor: Ha!

@elnino:

No shit she’s referencing the old cliche. But she’s doing it in such a way that she’s clearly establishing **Diosa **as being an elephant. The elephantiness of **Diosa **is presupposed and necessary to the way **rachel **phrased her response. It literally doesn’t make sense otherwise.

@MOL:

Fuck your snipes, woman! On the plus side, I just realized that elninost0rm is “elninost0rm” and not “elinost0rm,” thus relieving me of a lot of confusion about what an “elino” might be.

I just don’t find it very likely that someone with a BMI of 50 would take a jab at someone else’s weight. Like MOL said, I just think she misspoke.

Storm is a bowling ball brand, and El Nino was/is one of their balls released ~10 years ago. I adopted the handle while bowling competitively in high school and it stuck. The 0 is just a result of being young and hip. I haven’t managed to shake the pesky digit, either.

Well, fat jokes or not, I think rachellelogram has some issues going on. I would seriously hope that anyone with a 50 BMI would refrain from those kinds of jokes. (Well, ANYONE should, but it’s just bizarre coming from someone with weight problems like that.)

To begin with, I did agree that the roommate was being obnoxious, but how can she not see she’s wrong–even if the roomie was passive aggressive about it–as it’s not her house? Yes, the roommate (landlady, really?) could have been nicer–had it been me, I’d just have asked her to refrain from decorating the rest of the house, but it would never even occur to me to do so to begin with. Really not getting her.
