Look on the bright side: you can curl up in bed and re-read The Children of Hurin.
Good, good.
Nothin like a vodka and gin martini to cure what ails ya
I had one of those. Unfortunately, it came in on the coattails of a massive Celexa immersion. I couldn’t take antihistamines or pain killers. Not even aspirin. (I also was on BP meds.) Had to endure. Hated mankind. All the while, I had no need for a seratonin reuptake inhibitor, and so all my excess seratonin was seeping into my frontal cortex where it wreaked havoc, stunting my ability to say what I was thinking. I had to speak extremely slowly, and it was frustrating because I sounded like Stephen Hawking and there was nothing I could do about it. Luckily, my wife forced me to stop taking the Celexa, and after about a week or two, I regained normal consciousness. Now I’m on a benzodiazepine (clonazepam) and a serotonin receptor agonist (buspirone). We’ll see how this goes. It already seems much more effective.
Have the petechiae shown up yet?
You should feel better in about 7 days. If you follow your regime closely, it’ll take about a week…
Hope you’re better soon–do you need a nurse?
iiiiiieeeeee…runs screaming from thread!
That’s honestly how medical people think. I was raised by them.*
*(From the wilds of the ICU, subsisting on roots and affixes, comes Der-Leth the Nurse-Boy (half-nurse, half-other nurse)! Watch as he gets meds from sample packs! Marvel as he clamps non-resealable bags with hemostats! Cringe as he gets vaccinations at home! An exciting new Brand Ecch character.)
Hmmmm. Must have a nursephobia.
It’s true about the sample packs etc. You forgot to mention the hitting up of all medical staff by ancillary and nursing personnel for prescriptions. I don’t need to go to the doctor–I see lots of them every day…
It means a virus in the blood, dear. Not just in one’s throat or lungs or GI tract, but living in the blood, reproducing there & elsewhere, coursing thru every part of the body, reaching every cell, and hitting every last one of those cells with tiny hammers and red-hot needles.
Such strange fever dreams last night. My wife was building a trojan rabbit, a la “Holy Grail”, complete with sound effects.
I think it’s time to reach for a neuraminidase inhibitor…
Oh. shuffles feet, red-faced Sorry…
(Polycarp, the chicken was thrilled. The former Mrs. Chicken and the littlest Chick, not so much.)
What’s your type, Qadgop? I’ll type and cross you for an exchange transfusion, what do you say? Drain those bastards right out of you.
A helpful antigen fighting disease. That’s original.
Auntie Jen, is that you? I can hardly hear you! Speak up!
Thanks for all the kind wishes, folks.
This ain’t as bad as opiate withdrawal, but it sure ain’t fun.
Hope you feel better soon, doc. Have a shot of espresso; it’s good for what ails you.
One can take ibuprofen and acetaminophen at the same time?
So you’re thinking it might be influenza after all?
Hope you feel better soon! We’ve been battling two consecutive simultaneous URIs in our 10-month old twins for a couple of weeks now…I’m so tired I have no idea whether or not I also have it…
(How can such tiny noses produce so much mucus? Do they have hagfish genes?)
Hope you feel better soon, Qadgop. I’m going to send this thread over to MPSIMS where the other sickies can commiserate with you.
Just finished my 2nd espresso. It seems to help.
And yes, I alternate NSAIDS with APAP at times. No reason not to, usually.
Probably not. But the parainfluenza viruses also contain neuraminidase and can be shut down by oseltamivir too. Interestingly, the mumps virus has neuraminidase in it too. I’m not sure if oseltamivir has been tried on that particular entity though.
I KNEW that I had read this somewhere before. Only, the first time I read it, it started with “Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe”
So that’s why I’ve been feeling like I’m coming down with something for the past couple of days.
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, an unproductive cough, aching joints, slightly feverish.
And I get to sit through a high school production of West Side Story tonight.
