I’m not sure where the failure to understand begins for you, guinnog, and where you’re choosing to just be difficult, but I’m pretty sure I don’t care. Still, I’ll give it at least one more shot. The facts of the matter are:

I suggested GD because I was assuming you actually wanted to explore what could have been an interesting discussion in an appropriate forum.[/li][li]Even after that you chose to respond childishly, implying that previous posters in the thread had nothing to say. In threads, please do not accuse anyone of being a troll; not even subtly. If you have suspicions, e-mail a Moderator or an Administrator to explain your concerns, but keep the troll accusations out of the threads.

I don’t find grateful reverence for people who lost their lives in WWII particularly cutesy or precious. I also don’t find an implication that favoritism is shown to older members over newbies to be especially whimsical. The pun, well maybe. Corny is the word I would have used, but hey.
guinog, if a year of lurking causes you to call this board a bunch of war-worshipers, I am surprised you did join and even more surprised that you stay. The vast majority of people here, if they care about national affairs at all, tend very much against war. That being said, I think you’d find very few people here who feel that the US should not have fought in World War II. Not all wars are equal, and the absolute doctrinal pacifist is as stupid as the absolute doctrinal warmonger, IMO. That doesn’t make me a war-worshiper; it makes me a realist.
And btw, pseudo-apologies/acceptances of rebuke with snide little remarks that show that you neither apologize nor accept don’t go over all that well around here either. Free speech? Absolutely. It’s your right. But this is a private forum; your rights don’t cover the right to speak here. Also, as has been pointed out to you repeatedly, you weren’t reprimanded for the content of what you said, but rather where you said it.
If you find these attitudes overly cute or precious, fine. No one is requiring you to continue here. If the issue is that you paid for a membership, hey, I’m sure we could take up a collection to refund your money. It’s not that we want to get rid of you. But we don’t want to keep anyone against his or her will.
It should also be noted that banned members do not get refunds. So if you do want your money back, better you ask for your posting privleges to be removed.

guinnog, I suggest you learn how to walk away from a fight when you are losing. If you don’t realize you are losing on your own, perhaps listening to others who TELL you you are losing will help you learn the warning signs. Continuing your hopeless fight long past the point where a pet rat would realize you’ve lost is not noble, is not standing up to oppression. It’s just stupid.

And, no, RickJay’s comment wasn’t inappropriate. I, personally, wouldn’t have worded it the same way he did, but it wasn’t an attack on guinnog and was an attempt to put the thread back on its rails.
I do not think guinnog is arguing as much about the inappropriate thread/forum for his comments. He has already apologized in one of his earlier posts here. More than anything else, as he has already stated, he is resenting the “tone” used by the mod.
The offense committed by guinnog, even if it was one, was not so big as to have elicited a “warning” from a mod. Just like writing in caps is considered insulting, so is the use of words like “Be warned” by one adult to another. Being a moderator is a difficult job but also has responsibilities, one of them being not flying off the handle at insignificant provocations. Performing duties that deserve appreciation, does not give anyone the automatic privilege of insulting someone.

While appropriate, I concede that my comment was certainly UNSUCCESSFUL, in that quinnog was too stupid to go back and read the thread he’d hijacked and realize he was in the wrong place; instead, he managed to ruin one of the SDMB’s better threads, which includes five years of really good material, with his blithering idiocy about how anyone who has something nice to say about relatives who fought in the war loves war. It’s now clear to me that instead of a sharp rebuke in English, I should have consulted a translator to phrase my concerns in the ancient language of Dumbfuckese, so that quinnog would understand them.
Fortunately, this being the Pit, and you apparently having some command of English, I can point out in my native tongue that you’re a bloody jackass, and trust that you understand me.
