I quit.

I just notified Ed and the rest of the mods that I’m stepping down as a moderator. Ed and I have some fundamental differences on what type of forum the Pit should be, and rather than enforcing rules I don’t agree with or providing inconsistent moderation, I would prefer to simply go back to being a regular poster.

I’ve had a blast modding the Pit these last three and a half years and want to thank all the trolls, wankers, malcontents, complainers, and potty-mouths who made it such a treat. (You know who you are.) The rest of you weren’t bad, either.

Please note that I wasn’t in any way pressured or encouraged to leave, and I wish nothing but the best for the staff.

I hope this is an early April Fool joke.

No, I’m serious. (Although that would have been a good one, eh?)

Good for you. No, I mean that sincerely; I have to respect someone with principles and the stones to stand up for them.

Guessed this was coming, dude. Have fun as a poster.

I think not. Compare the tenor of Ed’s moderation to Giraffe’s.

Giraffe, though your decision doesn’t surprise me, I am sorry to see you go. I’m but a poster and a gadfly, of course, but your work has always been appreciated.

“Giraffe reached out to the board and offered his name for moderator of the Pit. He was very clear throughout the interviewing process that despite past disagreements about policies, he would support, embrace, and move forward with the board’s agenda. Once it became clear that Giraffe was not going to be supporting some of the board’s key priorities, it became necessary for Giraffe and the board administration to part ways. We regret that he has had a change of heart”.

Link.

Wow. Well see, the funny thing is. I didn’t care for you at first, as a moderator I mean. Of course, you probably weren’t thrilled with me as a member, but still. You proved me wrong. Over time, I came to realize that you were right about the way you did things.

I must say that the clash with Ed is not entirely surprising. When I saw his comment to the effect of this is my board and I’ll ruin it if I want to, I knew the end was coming. I guess it’s good that you got off the train before it wrecked.

Anyway, I gotta be honest with you. I’m gonna have trouble ripping into you as a poster. I’ve really come to respect you. Maybe if you wouldn’t mind taking a gratuitous swipe or two at me, it would be helpful.

Meanwhile, here’s to you — […tink!..] — one of the Best. Mods. Ever.

Sorry to see you go. Will you continue to post here? Do you have to return the coffee mug?

:frowning:

Well shit.

Perhaps now, at long last, we will not have to suffer any more interminable references to your foot long prehensile tongue!

(But seriously, folks…golf claps and kudos abound, and well deserved. You are the very model of a modern mammal moderator…)

Does this mean you’ll have more time to eat sandwiches that have been dipped in the toilet?

Oh, crap.

Just don’t leave as a member, okay? Because that would be, well, majorly craptastic.

You did a great job thanks for the time you spent.

I don’t think he’ll do that, from how I read his OP. 'Course, it wouldn’t be the first time I completely misunderstood someone.

No, I have no intention of leaving the boards, I just won’t get to boss people around any more.

Edit: And thanks for the kind words, all. They’re very much appreciated.

Hey! How come your button ain’t green?

Cool! Then I can Friend you and nobody will accuse me of kissing up to the mods!

Wicked cool!

I hope you consider “Well shit” to be kind words, and not some weird kind of menace quasi.

I’m pretty sure that if you’re kissing a giraffe you’re kissing up.
