Well, damn, Giraffe. This doesn’t bode well for our future, IMHO.
I’m a Pit Lurker. You Pitizens are a little too rough for me most of the time but I do enjoy the occasional train wreck. Giraffe, you did a damn fine job.
*Now what mod am I going to be able to call that so freely? Seriously, though…I’m going to miss you as a moderator. I thought you did really great. I hope you stick around as a member for a long time to come.
Don’t think we’ve interacted much – if at all. But that is one classy post you wrote.
Good on you.
Someone up-thread mentioned that Ed’s going to take over The Pit now. If true, I give this place about six months to live, as by then everyone will be either banned or suspended.
One might get the impression that, after having been forced, kicking and screaming, into updating the software, the PTB aren’t even bothering figuring out how to use it effectively.
Good on you, Giraffe. If ever you’re out my way, I’ll buy you a drink. Although I can’t imagine why you’d ever head out to the backwaters of Japan…
I, for one, am happy to see you go if going will make you happy.
Now, to the important stuff – how will this affect ME?
So without getting into a rehash of your disputes with TPTB, should we be expecting some new rules on some new stone tablets soon? Or was this about a reinterpretation of existing rules?
Are we headed to a Smurf Village Pit?
I, for one, welcome our NewSpeak overlords. :dubious:
Giraffe you did things the right way. You moderated, you didn’t try to rule. I probably didn’t agree with everything you did but I can’t really think of any examples. I hope you realize after reading this thread that your efforts were noticed and appreciated.
No, this isn’t as dramatic as anything like that. There was no falling out with any other mods, no dramatic arguments over a disputed ruling. (I did disagree pretty strongly with several recent actions, but the discussions were always civil and it’s far from the first time that there have been disagreements amongst the mods regarding a ruling.)
Rather, it’s pretty much just the fact that I hold pretty strong views about what kind of forum I’d like the Pit to be if I’m going to moderate it, and these don’t match up with some changes Ed is planning to make. I’m not angry and my leaving isn’t meant to manipulate or sway anything – the job is changing, and I don’t want to do the new one. It’s like if you volunteer at a soup kitchen and all of a sudden they want you to also make sandwiches and you’re like “hell with that, I’ll just go back to being homeless and eating the soup instead of making it” so you quit and then get evicted from your apartment for some reason.
Also, I have to say that the outpouring of compliments and good wishes in this thread caught me off guard. It’s a little overwhelming, in a really nice way. You guys are awesome.
