I have none. Does that make me unusual?
3,825 and 14 days’ playing time. 15 of those are my own. (Hey, you never know when you’ll meet someone with connections in the music or gaming biz…)
I have 3573 tracks in iTunes. 75 were purchased from the iTunes store. Of the remainder, well I ripped every CD I’ve got. There are also some of dubious source.
I have an additional 4000+ tracks in an archive directory on my computer, but they’re badly labeled and so there are a lot of duplicates. Half my CD collection got ripped pre-iTunes, and half in iTunes, and I haven’t trashed the whole archive directory because every now and again I’ll realise I’ve overlooked a disk, and it’s easier to move it from there than to track down the disk to rip it again. Yeah, it’s pretty disorganised.
FREAK!!!
preen
2464 on mine with some podcasts too.
5140 but several are duplicated as part of compilations
Wow… I only have around 1000. And no podcasts.
For those who have several thousand: Do you know all of the songs? Could you recognise a random song?
Yup.
I’ve played the iPod’s built in name-that-tune game thingie and I can pretty much get it every time in under 3 seconds – I usually get it on the first couple of notes but it takes time to use the scroll wheel to move the cursor and select.
No, there’s lots I haven’t listened to yet, and likely will never listen to.
9584 (whoa).
2494, on an employer-owned laptop. Everyone of them is on the I-Pod though, so should I get the “hey bring your laptop in for us to update/check out” call from IT, it’s all safe.
Don’t know the track count off hand (the machine is at home), but I know it’s around 55 GB of material (most music, some podcasts & audiobooks).
Plus about 20BGs of Christmas music that I load around this time of the year, then delete again in January.
23,972 currently but I’m not through ripping yet. I sort by song title and I have 83 different versions of Silent Night. (Note to self: Stop buying Christmas CDs!)
8276, of which I’m guessing 100 are duplicates, from “Best Of” compilations and the like. feppytweed, I’d recognize maybe 2/3rds of it, and the rest I haven’t gotten around to listening to because I got a ton of music when I came to college and haven’t had enough time to listen to it all.
Cherry-picked (nothing under a 3-star rating gets ripped).
But that number will be rising soon as I got a bunch of new CD’s…
Okay, wise guys…
If I like listening to Snow Patrol, Jem, K.T. Tunstall, Dido, Poe, The Fray, and Dashboard Confessional, who’d I like?
(Mods, this is probably going to get booted to Cafe Society now, I’m sorry…)
Maybe the Postal Service?
I don’t have it in front of me, but I estimate about 10,000 songs / 30 GB.
A combination of burned CDs, legit downloads from Napster (lets download…every Zepellin song ever), shady downloads from back in the day, and sharing of coworkers collections.
It’s really the combination of 1) big 300 GB hard drive, 2) buying an MP3 player a few years back 3) no car (im in NYC) and 4) extensive travel which caused my music collection to blow up.
No. There are probably entire artists in my collection I wouldn’t even recognize. I have a very elaborate system of organization though. First I run every mp3 through Windows Media Player to get the meta data (artist, track, etc). Then I use a program called Tag & Rename to rename the MP3s according to a standard format to avoid duplicates. Then I sort them into folders by Artist and Album.
Next, I have several dozen detailed Genres so I can organize similar sounding artists/albums loosly based on their Allmusic.com genre (ie Jam Bands = Dave Mathews, Phish, Rusted Root, Alternative Metal = Korn, Lincoln Park, etc).
Finally, I store various info in the comments and grouping fields for creating automatic playlists.
Dido - Alternative Rock [Chick Rock] - Sarah Mclaughlin, Tori Amos, Sarah Brightman
Poe - Alternative Rock [Chick Rock] (may create a new genra [Angry Chick Rock] - Garbage, Alanis Morrisette
The Fray - Adult Alternative - The Wallflowers, Counting Crows, John Mayer, Gin Blossoms
Dashboard Confessional - Indie Rock or Emo Punk - The Killers, Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy
Maybe Controller.Controller? The lead singer just left though so I don’t know who will be replacing her. Their Ep isn’t bad, but their first full CD “X Amounts” is really good if you like Poe & Dido I think.
Ah… Poe! Whatever happened to her… I mean them!
