I really have 945 tunes on my computer?

I have almost that much in just Christmas music.

2890, ripped from the approximately 150 CDs I bought between high school and the end of college. I got into the digital music thing late, about 2 years ago, and I haven’t bought much new music in the last 6-7 years. Part of the reason is that CDs here are ungodly expensive, 2-3 times higher than in the US, and I don’t have as much time to listen as I used to. I like music enough that I’d easily triple or quadruple that count if I actually bought all the stuff I’d like to have, but my book addiction comes first. I also haven’t been exposed to much new music I like since I don’t have buddies recommending things to me all the time like I used to when I was in school.

I haven’t bought any music from the iTunes store due partially to bitrate issues. (I rip in AAC format, which produces better sound and a smaller file size than MP3 for a given bitrate, at 192bps. The difference between 128 and my preferred bitrate is perceptible to me even on only moderately good speakers or headphones.) Besides having options on the sound quality, I also kind of like having a physical disk. If I do break down and start buying from iTunes, I’ll probably start with novelty stuff and tracks that I like, but that I wouldn’t buy a whole album to have.

  1. I had closer to 9000 a couple of weeks ago but trimmed down all of the albums that a friend had given me to check out. I just wasn’t into them.
