Informally, yes, we, as a community, all know he posted it and can use that info to inform our opinions, but I think the mods shouldn’t act on stuff like that. Clearly he thought better of it afterwards, and deleted it. Again, bad call.

mshar may have committed a net faux pas in bringing an ‘innocent’ into an argument, but Argent Tower’s sin of threatening violence to a board member should be unforgivable. Contrary to Smart Alec’s opinion, nothing said on a message-board warrants a threat of violence. If these exchanges were made in the physical world, maybe they would have led to violence( most likely initiated by AT and SA!), but here on the Dope, the keypad is supposedly mightier than the knuckleduster, and should be seen to be so. Is this a useful enough contribution for you, AT?

That’s what preview is for. How long do ya think the PTB will put up with folks posting shit that they should know crosses the not quite invisible line and then editing it out? That IMHO is abusing the edit privilege, using it like that shouldn’t get you suspended, it should get your ass banned.
This is (probably) exactly why we didn’t have the option of editing posts ('till recently) and exactly why we’ll lose it (if we ever do).

Damn this stinks. **Mshar **did not deserve to be suspended for the reason given. He thought better of it and removed. It was not like he changed it after someone called him for it, he thought better of it himself.
I think he acted stupid and juvenile in this thread and I believe he made a false charge about Mob mentality. But, he did not deserve suspension for this one thread. Though he thought better of, it is not as if **AT **took the high road in response.
I’m reasonably sure ralph124c is not reading this anymore, but in case you are I hope you try a little fact checking in the future. You managed to learn how to use the shift keys to make ( ), now maybe you can learn how to use Google or some other tool to verify what you post.

Can someone explain to me how a sideways vagina is a racial slur against Asians? I’m sure I should be offended, but I just don’t get it. 
There’s a “rumor” among very young (ie. old enough to know what a vagina is, not really old enough to know what to do with one) schoolboys that Chinese or Japanese women/girls have sideways vaginas- ie., a left-to-right positioning.
I have no idea where it came from or who would be dumb enough to believe it, but it persists as a sort of running joke among some adults.
It’s the kind of thing you can joke about if you’re east Asian- I know a bunch of Korean and Chinese chicks who do, and one even uses it as her user name for websites.

I am pretty non violent. If someone said something about my wife ,it would not be about her at all. It would just reveal something about them. I would laugh at the childish attempt. I would never get angry. But thats me.

You are not the first one, AT - my family has been made fun of, when I posted some pictures, long ago. I was pretty angry and offended, but it’s not like this board is some high arbiter of morality. People always say the Dope is this and the Dope is that but it’s just comprised of people, after all, with lots of flaws.

I think someone wanted to send a message about the original remark, but by now it was too late, as admonishments were already issued about that. So this is what gets done instead. I do not like the precedent.

I agree; it seems really silly to me to suspend someone for something you can’t even point to now. Linking to the post in question that has the slur edited out of it is ridiculous. He got it; he fixed his error. If the Powers That Be are going to allow us a five minute window to reconsider our sins, I would suggest that they only rule on what stands after those five minutes are over.

The difference between your scenerio and what happened here is that dipshit said that about the girlfriend on the internet. There was no verbal abuse to the girl. As far as we know she hasn’t even read the comment. So really, whose honor is Argent defending? Additionally, dipshit is entitled to his opinion, as harsh as it is. **Argent Towers **typed out a post, more than one, wishing bodily harm on others because they didn’t agree with him. And that’s acceptable? :rolleyes:

It would be my opinion–not that it matters–that AT should be banned for threatening death upon another poster, an SDMB no-no that should not be afforded a warning.
