I pit (not really angry enough for the Pit) my Crazy Christian Coworker. First, about a month or so ago, when talking about the Rachael Dolezal case (fake Afro-American in Spokane NAACP) at work, she suddenly blurts out “I don’t blame her! Everybody knows the most discriminated against people in America are White Women!”:dubious: At first I thought she was joking, but she went on & on about that for a while, while everyone else just shut up & let her rant.
So yesterday we’re all talking about the Cecil the Lion debacle. Everyone is upset about it, especially as we found out more & more details. After about 10 minutes of us expressing disgust & outrage with each detail of the story, like, y’know, NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS, she, once again, busts out with ““You know, I find it interesting that it’s OK that planned parenthood can rip limbs off of babies and sell body parts for profit, but one guy shoots a lion & the whole world is in an uproar.”
:eek::dubious::mad:
So thank you, FOX news &Evangelical email spam, for letting me know just what kind of whack job I’m in daily contact with. Always good to know who to avoid.
Mr. singular wanted me to respond, but I have to spend five days a week in a very small office with this nutbag - I’m avoiding a hostile work environment.
Close. We all know that it is actually White Men.
I work with a guy like that. I tried to keep quiet, smile, and nod my way through his ramblings, until one day he told me I was ignorant since I don’t read the blogs that proves Creationism is correct and the big-bad-scientists are suppressing them in order to keep getting grant money.
I ended up yelling at the guy, which I probably should have done years ago, because now he keeps that shit to himself.
And you’re right. You’re not changing her mind. Only a fool undertakes a fool’s errand, and arguing with someone who’s been programmed by right-wing nutbag media is definitely a fool’s errand.
To paraphrase Someone Whose* name is being bandied about a lot unjustly, “the militantly ignorant you shall have with you always.”
*Even He knew this was going to be a problem: “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” (Matthew 7:22-23)
Depending how aggressively crazy she is, she might be causing a hostile work environment.
You call that a hostile work environment?
In a meeting yesterday, the project manager threatened to punch the lead system architect in the face. With the CIO at the table.
Now that’s a hostile work environment.
God, I love this place.
Fortunately, she’s not all that aggressive about it. Her long-time coworkers know this lurks just below the surface & carefully try to avoid activating it. I’ve only been with her about eight-nine months, so I was caught unawares. I was telling someone who had been absent for the outburst about it, & got some valuable info about things to avoid discussing around her.
Gotta admit, you win. ![]()
I hadn’t heard the “discrimination against white women” one yet (as a white woman I can say, uh, no) but the “fuck lions - Planned Parenthood shouldn’t exist!” thing is gaining a lot of traction on social media today.
Reminds me of the supreme court decision on gay marriage a few weeks back. Right-wingers on my Facebook feed were all “What about meeeeeee??”
Wow - I was totally unaware that this was an actual thing. So not only is she a nut bag, she’s a bandwagon-jumping nut bag.
Sometimes I’m really happy about shit I didn’t know existed.

If you’re in daily contact with her, it’s hard to understand why you need Fox News to reveal that she’s a nut. ![]()
Long before Cecil the lion and irrespective of Fox News talking points, people who actively advocate for animals became used to this defensive line of counterargument.
“Why are you protesting puppy mills when there are human children who can’t get the government to pay for their homeschooling [or equivalent gripe]?” Often the complainant is shopping while criticizing our activism. “You should be doing more,” say the people doing nothing. Sure, they might be active in advocacy or charity at some other time–but so might we, for all they know. It’s just a way to help themselves feel less judged.
A parallel line of accusation is “you should get a job!” Typically this is shouted by people driving past on a Sunday. Why do they think we’re out there on a Sunday in the first place?
Maybe this was poorly worded on my part. Normally she’s just an overly aggressive coworker I tolerate. Once I had to sit at her station while my new laptop was being installed - that was when I saw the aggressively Christian stuff on the walls of her cube. Then came the bizarre statement about white women discrimination, which gave me a glimpse into her odd worldview. This latest planned parenthood barf is the first evidence of a Fox News viewpoint. I was surprised by its awkward shoehorned presence into a discussion. I haven’t heard this weirdness before, but other coworkers have since filled me in on this tendency.
