I’d like to see Liz take some responsibility too, but Johnston could easily take that too far. I’m envisioning this all-too-possible scenario:
Elizabeth: …And that’s when I realized that it was all my fault!
Anthony: You mustn’t blame yourself.
Elizabeth: But don’t you see? I placed my career ahead of my relationship! I did to Paul exactly what Therese did to you! Lord, what fools we women be! Forgive me, Anthony! Take me back!
And from today’s strip it looks like Warren will be a pig too. He knew what was going on, pushed her to go early and then after the horrible trip, he tells he he wants her back! I think Liz should just give up on men and become a lesbian.
What is it with the guys in this strip? First Anthony declares his love directly after Liz is almost raped. Now Warren declared his just after she finds out Paul’s been cheating on her. Bleah!
It means that when there’s a post from Liz, that’s me writing it.
“April’s Real Blog” is entirely about snarking on the strip. The reason I have Liz behave in a condescending, bigoted manner regarding the Natives in the strip is that I–and many people–believe that the way she portrayed Natives in the strip was bigoted and condescending!
Re: Anthony–it was stated multiple times, by multiple characters in the strip–that Anthony was still in love with Liz throughout his marriage to Therese. That makes him a jerk. If you’re in love with Girl A, you do not run out and marry Girl B. On top of that, he pressured Therese into having children she told him she did not want. Also, a year before the divorce, Anthony took advantage of Liz’s emotionally rattled state (post-going after by Howard) to beg Liz to wait for him so they could be together after he finally divorced Therese. However…he apparently never told Therese he was lining up a girlfriend and planning a divorce, because they didn’t “break up” until Therese left him for another man.
How on earth can you call someone who does those things “a nice guy”?
May I just state for the record that I loved your ‘sub-plot’ of Jesse trying to ‘get it on’ with Liz. That was EXACTLY what I thought when I read those strips - time for Liz to start emulating her TRUE mentor - Mary Kay Letourneau!
