I think I'll have a little whine...

Another miscellaneous poster standing around in the fog. Trust me, you’re appreciated, even if people don’t remember your every post.

Now, John, if I could figure out how to get the video from the VHF to here, I’d let you see that. No nikidness, part of the AT&T contract, you know, just the ugliest green and yellow sweater I’ve ever worn. It was their’s, not mine.
I don’t think I even have a digitized still.

Mea culpa. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa. Why am I posting in Latin when I think people who write or post in Latin are pretentious? I’m guilty. I’m guilty. I’m very guilty. picunurse, I’m easily grossed out and I have no affinity for nursing, so your name didn’t come to mind. I also spend hardly any time in GQ because every time I go in there, if there happens to be a question I can answer, someone’s already beaten me to it. I’m also terrible with names.

Look, I was the 2nd most unpopular kid in school, consistently got picked last for everything, including things I was good at, and had a better chance of going to the moon than to my high school prom. My intention wasn’t to list the popular people or make anyone feel left out. I know that feeling far too well. I’ve also done my share of looking through threads desperately hoping my name will appear and being grateful my disappointment at not being named isn’t visible through the computer screen. There are people around here who’ve done a great deal for me, things which have helped me out in real life, and all I wanted to do was thank them and, for those not living in the U.S., maybe give them something to smile about on a Thursday in November. I also wanted to give other people a chance to say “Thank you.” I did not want to start a popularity contest, and I’m sorry it appeared that way.

Siege

Aw, siege, don’t take it to heart. And picunurse, I too have noticed you. Wanna laugh? It wasn’t until I read this thread and you mentioned your nursing background that I took a moment to think: “picunurse… um, maybe that’s pronounced, not pick-you-nurse, but P-I-C-U nurse, as in pediatric intensive care unit nurse?”

:smack: :o

Large post count does not equal smart, ya know. ;j

Don’t feel bad. I’ve been here since 1999, coming up on 3,000 posts, and I’ve never pissed anyone off, to my knowledge. Not only was I not in that thread, but I’m never in those threads.

We should form a support group.

Well, okay then…
Siege Its okay, and I know your intentions were pure. And I’m ok now,

EddyTeddyFreddy You aren’t the first. Its worse when some purple haired kid wants itto be something dirty and doesn’t know what “pediatric” means.

DoctorJ Ok. Let’s make a pact that we never will never open a thread like that ever ever.
(and if we do, we’ll praise each other.)

picunurse, I’ve noticed you, too; we’ve even interacted in a number of threads. Hell, with all my health problems, I don’t think there’s a medical person on board that I haven’t interacted with. I did post to the tread you referred to, and I didn’t mention you by name, but hell, there are probably 40 other dopers that I adore that I didn’t mention, either. Mostly, the ones I did mention were ones that stick in my mind because I’ve hung out with them at DopeFests or have off-board email relationships with them.

To tell you the truth, you could have about knocked me over with a feather when not only was my name mentioned in that thread, but in the OP, even! I’ve never been one of the “cool kids” in school or anything; even here, I don’t feel like one of the cool kids; the main difference is that, here, the cool kids let me play with them, and that’s by-god good enough for me!

 WHAT!?
:frowning:

I get mentioned in those types of threads quite a lot. No doubt because I’m very visible; panforumic, wordy, on at all sorts of odd times. I wouldn’t doubt that if the mods allowed subjects such as “Posters that bug you,” I’d be in those, too.

Though I like the attention, I always feel a little uneasy about those types of threads. If I go in to list people, I KNOW I will forget someone. And that makes me feel bad. Plus, I know there are others who deserve a shout out but may not get it that time around because they don’t show up in every forum every freakin’ week.

To defend those threads, tho… When something nice is done for you in a very public way, it is natural to want to show everyone that you are indeed appreciative of that. Just like with questionable Mod and Admin descisions, if it happens publicly, don’t tell people to take it to e-mail. Let THEM do it publicly, too. Why begrudge them that opportunity?

Now that I’ve said all that, I have one request of all our fellow Dopers. If you want to give a shout out to someone, do it. But perhaps you can find a recent thread praising people and simply add to that, instead of creating multiple “popularity” threads. And if you don’t get included, for WHATEVER reasons, please don’t begrudge the others the positive attention they’re getting. We are all adults here. And very few here are actually DISliked.

Just my not so humble and highly visible opinion.

Somehow these sentences that you intended to post on some other MB wound up in your post, here.

Oh No! That wasn’t my point at all. I wasn’t even complaining about the other thread. I just used it as an example.
I know I’m actually invisible, I was using the example to demonstrate my transluscent personality.
Since childhood I’ve assumed that once I’ve left a room I cease to exist in the minds of those left behind.
I’ve certainly never felt disliked. Well, except for that guy who tracked me down, called to yell at me, then pitted me for hanging up in the middle of his rant…

Yeah me too, though I’ve learned to embrace it. Can’t go wrong with no drama.

So, who’s going to start the The doper appreciation thread for unappreciated dopers, thread?

I was responding more to the typical polarised reactions (on either side) than to anything specific about what Picunurse or Siege said or meant. Just thought I’d clear that up. (Some of the older threads would get either pretty stupid, cliquish, or nasty at times. That’s more what I was aiming at.)*

And Tomn…, yeah, I don’t know how that sentence got in there.

*Parse that! Grammar NAZIs. (you know who you are…) :stuck_out_tongue:

Not me I started this one…The** picunurse** appreciation thread
