I think there's a demon in my computer

I just had to reboot my computer because it was running like crap. I shut down everything and then restarted. Seconds after the actual Windows window appeared, I heard people yelling and screaming. Scared the crap outta me to tell you the truth.

Then, at the end, a very calm voice said something about Poseidon. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that a demon who tortures good people with bad remakes of bad movies is living in my computer. He’s trying to put the desire to see this movie into my subconscious.

It’s not going to work I tell you! I will survive this infestation!

Seriously though, what the hell happened? I was not watching any trailers, for this movie or any other. I’ve never even looked up information on this movie - as i have no interest. So how is it that the sound from the trailer managed to play on my newly restarted 'puter?

You’ve probably got spyware. Unless the sound was coming from the TV or a radio or somewhere else you didn’t realize.

Anyway, get Spybot or Ad-aware, or both, and do a scan.

Quick question: do you have a browser open automatically when you turn on the computer? Some times a web page may have an ad with sound, but you don’t notice it unless you scroll around, otherwise I suspect a payload from adware, malaware or my preferred term: scumware.

Most computer have daemons, not demons.

Nope. I’ll try the Spybot or ad-aware tomorrow.

Those would be Unix machines. Windows machines have demons… :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you need to talk to Winston Smith. There’s a lot of this going around.

Do you run AOL Instant Messenger, and allow it to sign in when Windows starts? One of the things that got me to bail on AIM was the ads they would run in the buddy list window, many of them movie trailers, with sound. I don’t think I even needed to hover over them with the mouse in order for them to play.
