My computer is revolting...

it just played a movie trailer. The sound to it, at least. I didn’t get what it was advertising, as I was busy trying to find out where it came from. My firewall expired a couple days ago. The programs I have open are IE, AIM, and one called X-Fonter. Oh, and Norton AND McAfee. So, what the heck happened? Should I unplug my (cable) modem?

revolting in the sense of rebelling, not disgusting…

There must be some spyware open that’s launched whenever you go to a particular site. I’d run Ad-Aware or SpyBot, or both. I bet it snags it.

Could be an embedded Flash ad. I hate those things, so I use the Proxomitron and Mozilla to weed them out.

It was probably AIM. I’ve been getting them lately too, for that Will Ferrell movie Elf. It’s in the little ad window above your buddy list, and there should be a little button on the right side of it to turn the sound off. Really irritating, but I don’t know how to prevent it.

our local paper, online, has trailer ads for it’s sister tv news station. the main page has nothing, but any article that you open, when you get to the page, will play the trailer for the news.

it is difficult to tell that is where it is coming from, because it is a normal sized ad on the right side of the column, not one of those big flashy ones.

if you click on one of the articleshere you will see what i mean. (well, actually, i did find one article that had a larger trailer, but for most articles, the trailer is almost unnoticeable except for the sound)
