Yesterday, I was 54. Today, I’m 55. I don’t see it as a big milestone, but it’s the first birthday since my 12th to make a difference in the price I pay for stuff.
I went to Miller’s Bar for lunch, and two friends shook my hand, swearing I don’t look that old (God bless 'em! ) and one bought me a beer. I also had a drink, which was on the house. My dear wife is going to bake me a peach pie.
My husband is the geezer in our family. Take advantage of the geezer discount at the movies and at I-HOP. It’s little consolation for being old and decrepit, but hey…it’s all you’ve got going right now.
You’ll find that people forgive naps more easily, as well. Go ahead! Lay your head down on your desk and commence sawing a log!
Well, I turned 22 today. You’re old enough to be my father (seriously, my dad just turned 55 a couple days ago.) So how does that make you feel? Older?
AskNott for whom the birthday bells toll
They toll for him.
Sorry, couldn’t resist…plus I know it is going to be a pain in the butt to read this really fine print because you are going to have to put your glasses on…hope it was a good one, enjoy the Happy Birthday peach pie!
I liked the Carlin thing, but it was never that way for me. Some folks do black balloons and dead flowers for 40 and 50, but I’ve never had that over-the-hill feeling.
Before Mrs. Nott started the peach pie, I found the Weebl & Bob Pie loop for her. (I just Googled Weebl Bob Pie) She’d never seen it, and she liked it. Mmmmmmm, pie!
I’ve never had the “over the hill” feeling either and I “pushed” 40 a few years ago. I’m thinking that as I age, that hill is always just as far away and I’ll never reach it which of course is fine by me.
Back when I my age was a single digit, I recall thinking 30 was pretty damn old and over the hill.
