I wanna!

I wanna get that job, that is.

Ok, I’m:
[ul]
[li]female (uh oh)[/li][li]have technical training (oh my gawd)[/li][li]large amounts of it (there’s two “levels” of engineers in Spain, of course I’m the high one)[/li][li]a kind that most people have never heard of (chemical engineer, not civil, mechanical or electrical)[/li][li]over the age of… 25… 30… well, actually I’m over 35 (37 in case you want to know)[/li][li]with 10 years experience (which apparently is a sin)[/li][/ul]

and the majority of the wanted ads I see are either,
[ul]
[li]male with good grades, graduating from college this year or last year, for Consultan jobs (can anybody explain to me why the “experts” are guys whose diplomas aren’t dry yet?)[/li][li]male under 30 with 3-5 years experience covering Exactly the position we need to fill in Exactly our same sector (which may have 3 companies in the whole country, one of them being us), this for jobs like Process Engineer or Quality Manager[/li][/ul]

and today I got contacted by an English agency offering me a job that consists of the kind of stuff I’ve been doing the last 3.5 years, first in France for 6 months and then in Germany for 6 more, and the pay is NIIIICE, and I actually love the kind of work and pleasepleasepleeeeeeeease!

prayers accepted, hugs accepted - rol-aids accepted!

Just sent one prayer, one nice hug (no excess groping) and I found a furry Rolaid in with the paper clips here in my drawer. It’s yours too.

GOOD LUCK!

You are seeing employee-wanted ads that specify “male”? Here in the U.S., that is sex discrimination – blatantly illegal. Apparently not so in Europe, where you seem to be located. (Nor is it illegal in Mexico. My Mexican friends are amused at my astonishment evey time I see a sign saying, for eaxample, “Se busca muchacha” – i.e., “young girl sought”).

Consider trying to work in the U.S. If someone refuses to hire you only because you’re a woman, sue the bastard!

Oh it’s illegal in Spain, too.

But I still haven’t met anybody who feels like suing the immense majority of employers.

I’m in the process of joining the political party that’s most important in my part of the country, and you bet stuff like that is high on the agenda.

Le echo porras. Suerte!

because they can pay them poorly, train them up and hire them out at extortionate rates to their clients. Once they have experience after a year or two they will leave for a better paid job. Repeat the process.

And by the way, some of the companies discriminating are American.

Guardian Glass has a huge factory in my hometown. I happen to know the RH manager since we were kids. He once told me that when they started the factory, the management team were very happy to have about 40% women, including some 20% of the people working the production lines. When the Americans found out all those “Marisomething” were female, they threw a fit. There are now only 9 women in the factory (down from about 150) and all of them are low-ranking paperpushers.

It’s depressing, really. The people from INEM (the National Employment Institute) see these things but aren’t legally allowed to sue. You can only sue a company for labor reasons IF and WHILE you work for them. Makes for huge abuses, as any idiot with an IQ above the outside temperature level of Alaska in December can figure out.

Popping in to wish you luck!

I want a job, too. I do have a videography gig on Saturday. The plan is to become a partner in the business when it moves to L.A. near the end of the year. But I’m feeling pretty low, not being employed now.
