When I’m at the bottom of a very long page and I can’t remember which thread I’m in, I look at my tab and it reads “Name of Thread-Straight Dope Message Board.”
Is there a way to add the forum to what I see there? I know I’m on the SDMB, but I have to scroll back to the top to learn which forum I’m in.
If the powers that be are feeling generous, how about a way to click a single link on the user control panel to open any/all new posts in subscribed threads, rather than doing it one at a time?
But when you are in the “I want to know which forum I’m in without having to scroll to the top of the page” thread, the name of the tab is “I want to know which …”
And, interestingly enough, when you are replying to a message in the “I want to know which forum I’m in without having to scroll to the top of the page” thread, the name of the tab switches to “Straight Dope Message Board.”
I have an idea. After the nice lady tells you all the advantages of BMO Harris online banking (which appears to have become a permanent feature of this board), every 15 seconds she could repeat “Thank you for reading the BMO Harris General Questions Forum.” (Of course, the initial recitation of BMO Harris online banking benefits would be skipped for paid members.)
Sometimes I have multiple threads open in different tabs. Since each forum has its own set of particular rules, and you come back to it, not remembering if it was GD or the BBQ, you have to scroll up, which can get slightly annoying.
But I expect we’d see something like avatars first before something like that is looked into.
The thing is, the first part of the page title (which is the only part that’s relevant, as the tab doesn’t have room to show the whole thing) is a limited resource, and the thread title has a better claim to it. If I’m reading a discussion comparing the relative merits of Jeb’s and Rubio’s policies, then it’s pretty easy for me to figure out that I’m in Elections, but is that the thread about Jeb, the thread about Rubio, the thread about the Republican candidates in general, or a hijacked discussion in a thread about Sanders? If I’m reading a question about the finer points of black holes, I can tell it’s GQ, but is it the thread about a person collapsing into a black hole, or the thread about GR and absolute zero?
