I would like to copy and paste entries from one thread to create another

In GQ, a current thread on “neutrinos faster than light” is now up to six pages. Surprisingly, what I thought would be two-line self-aborted hijack on direct human observation of neutrinos has now taken on a life of its own, and makes it hard to follow, let alone obscuring its parent thread.

May I copy and paste all the relevant comments (with date and authors of each one) as the beginning of a new thread?

Thanks,
Leo

The General Questions moderators need to consult on this issue – so hold on until they get back to you.

I’m confused. Hasn’t this been done several times before? I know it’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but has it actually been forbidden?

Or is the issue just the large number of posts?

There’s a vB feature (mods only) that can do that much more effectively than a user can.

Especially since the c&p version looks like crap (you get one huge-ass OP with a bunch of quote boxes at best) and the “copy posts to a new thread” mod-version looks great (everyone’s post is it’s own post and correctly attributed), I’d want the mods to discourage users from doing it on their own.

I’ve asked the moderators of that forum to look at this situation and take action.
