I was wondering if anyone could ID an anime I saw a video review for, a few months back, but now I can’t remember the name of.
It was (IIRC) a “Magical Girl” genre series, but with a couple of interesting elements—one scene I recall in particular is that main character, a Japanese schoolgirl (surprise, surprise) getting up one morning, going downstairs for breakfast…and her parents quickly mutate into grotesque monsters.
They’re quickly slain by another sorcerer-type lady who shows up, saying basically that “I’m sorry I didn’t get here earlier, but you parents were possessed by evil demons/aliens/whatever that turn their hosts into monsters, so there was no helping them. Oh, and you’re the Chosen One who needs to fight the evil demons/aliens/whatever, so we’ll start training immediately.”
I seem to recall that said demons/whatever end up doing the same thing to a few other people—at least one of them was a schoolgirl in a classroom. I think, like, the student at the desk in front of her was a demon possessee, and grabbed and assimilated the hapless victim from tendrils that burst out of the back of her head, or something equally gnarly.
In the end, though, the main heroine manages to defeat the bad guy/s, and as a reward, gets her consciousness sent back in time to before all the horror started, to when her parents were still alive. So, she wakes up, goes downstairs…and at the very least, the scene is exactly like the one at the beginning of the series, but I don’t recall for certain if her parents are assimilated/killed by monsters again. I think they might have been, though.
By the animation style, I’d say the anime was made sometime in the 80s-90s. But that’s about all I’ve got. Can anyone help me out?
