ID This Song/Video

please.

Saw this on VH-1 /MTV Classic (whatever the hell it’s called), the video consists of a short-haired African-American female rapper. The video cuts to different shots of her doing the song. Every now and then you can hear a female voice clearly saying “True” then the end has the rapper saying “…needs to rock on, …needs to rock on, …needs to rock on” with the ellipses representing a number of artists who I imagine were all the rage at the time. It’s a pretty bare-bones video. I just remember there were a lot of nifty jazz chords throughout the song.

I saw the video a few weeks back but I imagine it dates back to the late 80s, early to mid 90s.

I trust this should be no problem as people have id’ed songs with much less to go by.

Wow. Looks like we’re stumped.

No takers?

A little birdie tells me it might be Bahamadia’s “Uknowhowwedu”. I have made no effort to verify this myself.

Bahamadia - Uknowhowwedu. (Courtesy of someone else–I did not know this answer.)

That’s the one.
I knew you guys wouldn’t let me down.
