If Hillary ran against Trump again, you'd stay home? Please explain

First–I have hated what Trump stands for, since before I saw Trump.

Ms Clinton was very good Secretary Of State, and might have been a good President.

But she was a lousy Candidate.

Chatter about Foreign Policy, in an election where people were pressing her about Domestic Policy, skipping Wisconsin, using questionable means to block Sanders–bad optics.

Perhaps she could have addressed Sanders’ policies?
Or engaged the idea that Infrastructure would be addressed?

I kind of think just the opposite. I wonder if Bill could have gotten as far without her. He seems to have a problem with impulse control and focusing.

She wasn’t very good at making people feel that she heard and understood their issues. Some other politician–I can’t remember who  – seemed believable when he said “I feel your pain”. Hillary didn’t have that ability. Hillary struck me as having a more condescending attitude of “Why are you bothering me with this stuff?”. Her answers seemed more in line with saying something to placate people in order to be able to move on. It’s kind of like when a manger asks for feedback on issues in the workplace. You can tell when a manager really cares about the responses versus they are just asking because it’s something to tick off on a corporate to-do list.

As far as women politicians go, I think it would have been better for someone like Elizabeth Warren to have been the candidate. Certainly she’s not going to appeal to all voters, but she’s charismatic and it’s clear she actually cares about the people she represents. She works hard to make their lives better. I feel she’s a politician because that’s how she feels she can best help people. I feel Hillary wants to be a politician because she wants to have the respect and power that comes from being a politician.

Dumb and debunked. And dumb.

The problem I keep finding when trying to discuss the campaigning of a female politician (especially a Democrat or otherwise left-affiliated) is that her defenders often go first to the “sexism” (or even stronger) defense. Which of course you can’t do with a male politician. So when I say that I didn’t like the way Hillary Clinton campaigned in 2008 or 2016, the rather tired “you’re just a misogynist” reply happens at least once. Similarly, if I say that I didn’t see anything I liked about Harris or her campaign in 2020 and that I think she’d be a poor candidate yet again some responses of “sexism” as well as “racism” come in, or if the person is really very online, something like “misogynoir”.

There are lots of people who would probably make an okay politician, even an okay president. Doesn’t mean I want them to represent me or that I think they deserve the seat they’re running for.

How charming you are!
Please come over to my place, & bring your personality with you, I need to curdle some milk, yes

I can’t think of a female politician that I think would be great to run in 2028 but I’m not a sexist because I can’t think of a male politician either off the top of my head. I hope someone does show up though either way.

Then why did he go first? Why did she wait until he retired before running for office?

How could she be the nation’s first choice when she wasn’t the first choice in her own house?

Bernie can go fuck himself. People talk about Hillary being a carpetbagger, and this asshole pointedly declares that he is NOT A DEMOCRAT unless he wants a bigger job, then he says I’M A DEMOCRAT and gets his set of whiny fanbois to complain that THE DEMOCRAT MACHINE IS AGAINST BERNIE. Fuck all their asses.

Bernie is not and never has been a Democrat, and no Democrat should have to explain why they told him to pack up his fucking shinebox and go home when he wanted to be the Democrat candidate for President. Want to be the Democrat nominee? Be A Democrat.

Thanks Bernie, for creating another bullshit “controversy” that helped Trump get elected.

He’s a better Democrat than most of the caucus. And considering his platform was popular, perhaps the useless DNC should have incorporated it. Instead of this Clintonian Third Way neoliberal bullshit.

Biden has very similar problems. Almost all of us supported her and voted for her but thought that she made tactical mistakes. Not a single one of us is widely supportive of Biden but not her. Where are you seeing this?

Yeah, he should really get out of the spotlight with that!

You’re right. Woman had just as many opportunities in the 70’s as men. Especially in the South.

Which wasn’t what I was getting at. My point was, if Bill wasn’t married to someone as smart and focused as Hillary, would he have been as successful.

She was clearly a big part of his success.

I voted for her in the primary. But, I’m not sure she would have won. People were already calling her shrill, especially when she ripped Bloomberg a new one in the debate.

That’s true, but it’s not so much about Trump or Biden, but about how nearly evenly-divided the electorate is PLUS the Electoral College system that always gives a huge advantage to Republicans.

So IF Trump loses–and therefore the American experiment in democracy does continue–then we can expect to see the same situation in however many future Presidential elections remain to us. (I.E. a Republican Presidential candidate having an out-of-the-gate advantage against any Democratic counterpart.)

My bolding. Yes. “Staying home” (from the thread title) is not an option for any responsible citizen.

I’ll go on record that I like her much better than Biden.

It always is, but yeah not only is likeability something that Biden has had a long reputation for, but here’s a poll if you want “data”.

Here’s one from a couple of years ago.

There’s a Wikipedia page about Biden’s public image, and his “empathy” has long been noted as one of his strong points.

That correlates to being relatable and likeable to many people, though others might see that as being weak and might prefer someone who tries to be a bully like Trump.

Or forever because it’s stupid to think that someone who’s not 100% liked isn’t likeable.

Maybe? Which is a shitty part of the country’s sexist history which unfortunately isn’t totally gone.
