I agree too. Being likeable is one of Biden’s strengths, as making gaffes is one of his weaknesses. But it should be his policies that matter and the success he’s had as POTUS that should matter.
If it helps, I didn’t want Biden either (though I have found his presidency to be more than adequate).
This.
Tell that to all the people who didn’t vote for him
To answer the OP, I cannot, in good conscience, vote for Trump; I didn’t vote for him in 2016, and I didn’t vote for him in 2020. OTOH, I also can’t vote for Hillary, nor can I vote for Biden. In the last two elections I wrote in the name “John Galt” for POTUS.
American Labor has been abused by the GOP, and utterly ignored by the Democrats (when not in an Election Year). Lip service is all America gets.
Wages and standards of living are withering and many Democratic Party “leaders” can’t be bothered to care.
That attitude, more than any other, led to Trump’s sad victory.
That sounds like revisionist bullshit or extreme hyperbole.
“More than any other”? More than the explicit racism and religious fundamentalism?
As many people have openly said, they supported Trump because they thought he would hurt the “right people”.
Your choice is lip service or active destruction. Clearly the choice is to stay home and let active destruction be in charge since Hillary was mean to Bernie by not stepping aside to let him win the nomination of the party he joined 6 weeks ago.
no, my choice is to demand a better Democratic Party.
Nevermind, need to check something first.
Equivalent of literally believing you fart rainbows.
My problem with Sanders was two fold. First there was no way he could have beaten Trump. Yes, there are polls that show him doing better than Clinton head-to-head, but that is because he was was being promoted by right wing and Russian propagandists as a wedge against Clinton. If he was the nominee, those would have reversed and he would have been attack full force as a cranky old Communist run by Soros *wink* *wink* who is out to turn the US into Soviet Russia. Trump would have won the popular vote by a landslide.
Secondly even if he had won, he has shown no ability to actually build coalitions behind his policies. From wikipedia
While he has consistently advocated for progressive causes, Politico wrote that he has “rarely forged actual legislation or left a significant imprint on it.”[144] According to The New York Times, “Big legislation largely eludes Mr. Sanders because his ideas are usually far to the left of the majority of the Senate … Mr. Sanders has largely found ways to press his agenda through appending small provisions to the larger bills of others.”[145] During his time in the Senate, he had lower legislative effectiveness than the average senator, as measured by the number of sponsored bills that passed and successful amendments made
He is much better as a gadfly than he is a legislator. So I think that a Sanders presidency will be filled with sound an fury but have little in the way of actual accomplishments.
You’d do 100x better giving the current “do nothing lip service” Democratic Party enough power to actually pass progressive legislation without having to depend on “moderate” Independents and DINOs who are desperately clinging to their offices.
Demand?
Screw that. Get involved in the system and make it better. Protest voting won’t, can’t do anything to change the system. Protest votes, especially unorganized ones for hundreds of different non-candidates, don’t get saved out and sent to the parties involved. They go in the fucking round file.
What the fuck did you hope to accomplish with that stupid gesture? Even IF the Parties found out about your vote for a fictional character, they would have no fucking idea which party the vote was meant for, and they certainly have no fucking idea whatsoever what message you were trying to send.
[golf clap]Way to go![/gc] The next time you want to send a message, why don’t you send a few dozen cookies in a large box labeled “All The Candidates Are Poopyheads!” to a local shelter.
At least then something of value would happen.
Just for the record, have we established that Bosda_Di is in favor of protest voting? Based on the thread so far all he’s said is that he is dissatisfied, with the Dems, blames their lack of Liberalness for Trumps victory and preferred Sanders.
If he isn’t in favor of protest voting I’ll take that part back on his part…but demanding anything of either Party without getting your hands dirty by getting directly involved in the system you “demand” be changed gets no respect from me.
This. Even during the very short windows in the medium-term past in which the Democrats had a slim majority, they didn’t have enough consensus to implement anything that even the average Democrat congressperson wanted, let alone progressives. It had to be watered down to appeal to their right wing and independents.
I think the Hillary campaign folks where thinking like normal people in that “There is no was this bozo has a chance”
I thought that at first, and then started to warn my friends to NOT vote for Bernie. Their attitude was that Trump would never win, and that supporting a third party is OK and good for democracy. Well, yeah, but…It may have cost them/us democracy.
The nearer the election got, I became very, very worried. And it was to late for Hillary. Maybe it always was because of the misogynists and other morons that Trump dug up.
Those assholes voted for him once, and will do it again.
I’ve met 2 people who were voting in their first elections in 2000 and were living in Florida at the time who thought there was no way Gore could lose and voted Nader to support a third party. They weren’t actual supporters of the candidate, just idealistic youths thinking they could help the little guy without affecting things.
They both told me in 2016 they did not ever do anything that stupid ever again and would not do so that year.
How?
Explain.
I do not want Trump in office again.
But I’m going to have to hold my nose for Biden.
