Well, I think that @ThelmaLou asked a really valid question about the great mystery - what the actual fuck is so evil about Hillary?
I know this is technically true. But the popular vote outcome does lend a certain moral authority to the winner–and that’s not nothing.
I saw it as pitting the question. I figured the discussion would eventually get moved to the Pit anyway. Just skipping that step.
This. I thought that any direct criticism of an individual poster had to go in the Pit. Is my understanding of the rules incorrect?
Just mails. They were buttery mails.
At least that’s what the MAGAts keep saying,
I love a hot buttered email in the morning.
But I digress…
There was probably a way to phrase it, but I’m not sure how. The Pit is the easy way to try and do it.
Do you know how many in the state will make the decision not to vote for that reason? The state may be as blue as can be, but states don’t vote.
Ditto. It’s something I never thought I’d do but I couldn’t stomach the thought of Trump as president. My Evangelical Christian brother-in-law voted for Hillary for the same reason.
I didn’t vote for either Hillary or Donald in 2016, I didn’t trust either. That was back then. Also I considered myself a conservative at the time (though a pretty moderate one).
I would not hesitate for a second to vote for her if she was the Democratic nominee in 2024. I would have done the same in 2020.
I’d vote for an inanimate carbon rod before I’d vote for trump.
I’m not sure how bad a democrat candidate would have to be before I didn’t vote for them, but I cannot imagine a believable candidate worse than trump.
Like I said, I’ll cast my vote, but that’s the limit of my ability to change what happens. That’s OK, though, I “accept” that this is the way of the world, I cannot change our system of governance, I will do my part to elect Biden, and whatever happens I’ll just have to keep on keeping on.
When Trump finally hits room temp, I’m going to break out the crystal champagne flutes from my wedding and I’ll raise a glass to the Grim Reaper for a job well done. I just won’t be angry or scared or miserable or questioning the future every moment until then.
It’s hard for me to characterize a job that’s eight years (and counting) past its due by date as “well done.”
Yeah, having been the subject of a slightly similar pitting (though it annoyed me less than it caused me to quirk an eyebrow), politely asking for clarification in the thread would have seemed the better way to do things.
I honestly did not think he was making a comment about himself, but rather as part of the the more general discussion about people grasping at any excuse not to vote for a Democrat over Trump. Hilary demonstrably was that reason for a few in 2016. I didn’t see any Hilary-bashing in a quick search of his posts around 2016.
But, eh - whatever.
It’s fine with me if someone chooses not vote for either R or D candidate if they don’t like any of them. I’d rather they not vote at all rather than vote for Trump. That’s why I don’t really mind the people who vote for 3rd party candidates. Whether they don’t vote at all or vote for a candidate who only gets 1% of the vote, either way they’re not tipping the scales to Trump. My order of preference is:
- Vote for D
- Vote for no one
- Vote for 3rd party candidate
But I don’t really respect people who don’t vote or vote for 3rd party candidates. Even if someone hates both the R and D candidates, the reality is that one of them will win and will enact policies that affect everyone. Staying out of the process or casting a vote for a fantasy 3rd party candidate who won’t even get 1% of the vote is taking the easy way out.
As usual though, thanks to our stupid voting system for President, if you’re in a Blue or Red state, voting 3rd party is not a bad thing, but instead a futile protest vote at least.
My voting for Nader in 2000 did not hurt either candidate as I am in New Jersey. Also before anyone gets stupid, I was still a registered Republican. If McCain had won the nomination I would have voted for him, but never Bush/Cheney as “dumb” and “very evil” was a really bad combo. If Bill Bradley had won I would have voted for him. But not wooden Gore and his evil record banning wife. If Al Gore had shown his human side before the election, I would have voted for him though despite Tipper. and it still wouldn’t have mattered as I didn’t live in Florida.
I would absolutely accept that as a clarification.
Jeez dude. ThelmaLou’s question was completely appropriate. Your response here was vile. Just answer the question.
One candidate is very likely to undermine the judicial system and the electoral system and has an insane cult following. The other candidate is highly intelligent, competent, and not exceptionally corrupt.
Just explain yourself instead of getting indignant.
I got that feeling as well. So what? @ThelmaLou explained why she posted it in the Pit. Hell, if I didn’t know I was in the pit, just reading the OP would not tip me off. Happy’s response was way out of proportion.
I assume anyone expressing how terrible a candidate Hillary Clinton was is suffering from implicit sexism at best and a raging bigot at worst. Women in leadership positions face questions of competence and nitpicking of flaws all the time. It doesn’t matter if their competence is greater and their flaws lesser compared to their male competitors.
Add to that the right-wing smear campaigns against her, that somehow even the “unbiased” media continued to cover. And the worst part is the idiots who blame Hillary for their own biases against her. Fuck that shit.
I will vote for Biden in November, but in the event that he is struck down by Dutch elm disease and the party nominates Hillary Clinton by acclamation as his replacement, I’ll pick someone else on which to waste my vote in this thoroughly red state in which I live in.*
*obscure reference to a bad Paul McCartney song lyric.
**Happy’s vote doesn’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world of ours.
