If You Could Invite 5 Actors To Your Party, Who Would They Be?

Living or dead… For a discussion.

-Marlon Brando
-John Cassavetes
-Orson Welles
-Steve McQueen
-Robert Mitchum

Robert De Niro
Robin Williams
Reese Witherspoon
Bob Crane
Jodi Foster

Can I loosely define Penn of Penn & Teller as an actor? He has taken roles on TV shows, so must have a SAG card.

Penn Jillette
Helen Mirren
Irene Dunne
Phyllis Frelich
Konstantin Stanislavski

Sure. Loosely define away

I’ll have to substitute Mort Sahl for Steve McQueen… Mort was in more than a handful of movies. In fact, I think his first (maybe second) one was with Alan Ladd and Sidney Poitier, and even wrote all of his dialogue.

Simon Helberg
Gary Cooper
Adrien Brody
Leonard Nimoy
Brent Spiner

Will my husband be there?

For a discussion about what? If it’s about acting, then my list is:

  1. Ian McKellen
  2. Peter Dinklage
  3. Tom Hanks
  4. Patrick Stewart
  5. Katharine Hepburn

Charles Chaplin
Orson Welles
Katharine Hepburn
Spencer Tracy
Kathy Bates

They seem intelligent, chatty and extroverted. I don’t know what they were really iike, though.

This would be circa 1960:
Sophia Loren
Brigitte Bardot
Ann-Margret
Bettie Page
Audrey Hepburn

We would discuss Fellini and Bergman, of course.

Did any of them even work for Bergman?

A lot of actors are kind of assholes, so I think I’d go with the ones who may not be the best but who I know are agreeable.
Tom Hanks
Jimmy Stewart
Gary Sinise
Dwayne Johnson
Patrick Stewart

So many actors, so little time… :frowning:

"A" LIST

Stan Laurel
Oliver Hardy
Errol Flynn
Peter O’Toole
David Niven

Charles Laughton
Boris Karloff
Lillian Gish
Barbara Steele
Buster Keaton

I have NO idea which way the conversation would turn…just five performers I would have liked to have met.

As Cary Grant once said, “I can understand why men wish they were Cary Grant. I wish I was Cary Grant.”

Find me five actors who can intelligently discuss things other than acting, and I will invite them. Actors I see on chat shows seem pretty full of themselves and empty of everything else. There must be exceptions, but I can’t think of any offhand. On this list, for me only Tom Hanks is a maybe.

Katharine Hepburn is the last person I would want to talk to about acting or anything else. My impression of her is that she suffered hardly anyone gladly, and the last thing I need is to be frozen in place by a legend.

Tom Hanks
Humphrey Bogart
Patrick Stewart
Keira Knightley
Ingrid Bergman

Now I’m a little wistful that this dinner party will never take place…

Sandra Bullock (Speed)
Sofia Vergara (!)
Salma Hayek (Dusk till Dawn)
Marisa Tomei (Cousin Vinnie)
Kaley Cuoco (Big Bang)

I wish to plead guilty to selecting beautiful women who acted really well. That is all.

What will you all talk about?

Fellini and Bergman, is my guess.

Me too, but they’ll all be porn stars.
