If you knew then, what you know now- would you vote for Hillary in 2016?

Voted for her then, would do the same again. I periodically muse what a wonderful president she would’ve been, and how much better off America would’ve been with her instead of Trump.

Same. (And my policy preferences lean more towards Bernie. Doesn’t matter. I like pretty pink ponies, too.)

I didn’t but it did not matter. She carried the state anyway.

I didn’t think he was going to be as bad as he was. I figured he’d want to be a success and seek broad popularity, probably with stupid programs and policies, but just not as bad as he was. By election day I had no doubt Hillary was the lesser of two evils, but really more like the lesser of two dishonest and incompetent candidates. Trump turned out to be truly evil.

Hillary was the first Democratic presidential candidate I ever voted for (N.B.: nothing could make me vote for a Republican for any office now). Trump was just as horrible as I thought he’d be. I didn’t predict the details, but he was (and is) a hateful, racist, misogynistic, idiot, completely incompetent to govern.

So, yes, I’d vote for her again.

I’m in a very blue state so my vote for Hillary was irrelevant. I cast it anyway because I saw clearly that Trump was a monster and his election would tip the US into irreversible decline, so I wanted the margin of victory to be inflated as much as possible.

Nevertheless, I cast the vote with some hesitancy. Not because of any doubts about her intelligence or competence, but because I have a deep allergy for bloodline-slash-family legacies in what are supposed to be democracies. I think there is a strong and unhealthy susceptibility in people, in the aggregate, to desire and support aristocratic inheritance of power. Just listen to the chatter about recruiting various relatives into politics, from Don Jr to Michelle Obama or even the Obama daughters, all of which strikes me as thoroughly insane and totally poisonous to democracy. I think that tendency should be resisted and avoided whenever and wherever possible, so just on principle I didn’t like voting for another Clinton.

Nevertheless, I respected her capabilities and her accomplishments, which diluted my reluctance. If Bill had never been president, I would have been much, much happier voting for her as an entirely independent political figure. But alas, she got the nomination, so I sighed heavily and ticked the box for her. And under the same circumstances, I would again.

I really agree with this. Leading up to 2016, I though my worst nightmare was going to happen of Hillary vs Jeb! but instead of course I got an unimaginably worse nightmare of Trump and never saw that as a real thing. In 2015 I said Trump wasn’t even a real candidate and just trying to sell another book and some more steaks. Oh boy was I incredibly wrong. I underestimated the stupidity of the American Public.

But I really don’t want to see legacies running for President.

I voted for her enthusiastically and would do so again. I happen to think she was likely the most qualified person in my lifetime (well, I guess FDR did run in my lifetime) to run for president and expected great things from her. Insofar as it is possible to get great things given congress and SCOTUS. But maybe she could have turned SCOTUS around.

As for Trump, he was just as bad as I expected but he is aiming to be much much worse this time around. Paul Krugman wonders in today’s Times whether, if Trump wins, there will even be an election in 2028.

In 2016, I wanted Biden but he chose not to run so Clinton was an adequate second choice. Nothing’s changed that opinion or how I would have voted.

With no hesitation whatsoever I would vote for her again.

Voted for her, and knowing what I know now, would crawl over broken glass to vote for her again.

I should have added that I live in a swing state, Pennsylvania. With a candidate like Trump on the ballot, it’s no time for a protest vote or any other nonsense. Again, I voted for her and would have knowing what I know now, only with additional terror over the prospect of a Trump win.

Voted for her then, would do so again. I did notice that the negativity about her had started to reduce my respect for her, which is a bit scary, since it was 99.44% BS.

Voted for her then (not that my Wyoming vote matters), would vote for her again. Like then, would still prefer a younger, more progressive candidate (get out your pitchforks!).

I voted for her then, and I of course would vote for her now. What put the orange turd back in office? Not for love or money.
I’m from MI. l hope we don’'t embarrass ourselves here in the mitten, and support Joe Biden.

But this is back in 2016, mind you.

Yeah, neither did I.

What would you do if you could go back to 2016 and try again?

So far only one person would have not voted for her.

Hari_Seldon, you’re eighty years old! No one I know lives that long - astounding!

I voted for Hilary in 2016 and would do so again. It’s too bad it took that long for decades for her to get there. Though she cuts corners, I’ve always like how she confronts people and her exuberant sense of humor.

My boss, the president and chief operating officer of a biotechnology firm, is 79 yrs old and sharp as a tack. He’s in better shape than I am. And he voted for Hillary in 2016 and Biden in 2020.

Eighty isn’t as old as it used to be, young’un. :face_with_monocle:

Exactly! (I wish I were a young’un…)
