I think Town should be guaranteed a win.

jsgoddess (Townsperson)

If there is 1 werewolf left then there are 7 town comprising probably 3 masons and 4 vanilla.

  1. Wolf eats OAOW (1 v 2/6)
  2. Town lynch one of 3 suspects assuming the Masons come forward and are believed. Let’s assume they miss. (1 v. 2/5)
  3. Wolf eats another Mason (1 v 1/4)
  4. Town lynch one of 2 suspects and again miss (1 v 1/3)
  5. Wolf can eat either the last declared Mason or one of the two known Townspeople it doesn’t matter. (1 v 2)
  6. Town lynches wolf by a vote of 2 to 1 and win.

It’s mate in 6 as long as they don’t do something absolutely stupid. And the wolf can’t claim Mason since there should be no one to back him up.

You basically want to play a variant of a LARP.

There’s one that’s close (i.e. there are hidden werewolves, but no day/night division, wolves just kill who they can in dark corners) written by a friend of mine, called The Wolves Are Running. Unfortunately it’s not on the net anymore.

Well you’ll notice that in the main game thread deceased players are allowed a single farewell and that’s it. (There’s even been a couple of annoyed remarks about departed posters.)

In Diplomacy, a beaten player making remarks would certainly be an annoyance…

20 bucks on unfinished symphony being the last wolf. Any takers?

Yeah, but some of us just ignore that rule.

d n o o M a n There is no r, and only 2 n’s. Maybe some of you are diehard Peter Noonan fans?

Sadly, there is almost no chance of the wolves pulling off a victory. That is largely my fault. Had I kept my stupid mouth shut, the GA would have been dead on night one which would have changed everything.

Sturmhauke pretty much saved the town with his claim, he was my number one choice for diner that night, and I think he would have been eaten.

Hindsight is 20/20 I guess. Our ace in the hole getting lynched on day one was a huge disadvantage for the rest of the game. That was very lucky for the town. It would have been nice to have luckily killed one of the five roles on the town side earlier in the game. Oh well.

Are the wolf boards going to be opened to the public at the end? I was not aware of that.

Aigh, Enginerd!!!

Well, it would be a party game. I can’t see me getting too anal about folks making random remarks. It’d all just add to the glorious chaos of a lynchin’.

Does it matter that Enginerd outed himself at this point?

Isn’t the only ‘power’ a mason has is that he knows who the other masons are? And since every single player now knows the other two mason’s identity, how would losing Enginerd to the wolves be any worse than losing a vanilla townie?

It means losing a certain townie (well, as certain as you can be). Say there are 3 Masons and 4 townies. The werewolves want to get rid of all of them. The townies would prefer to lose townies, since every townie lost decreased the pool that the werewolf can be hiding in - because they can (at this point) only be one of the townies.

If the werewolves kill a Mason, there are still 4 townies left that could be the werewolf. That means the Day vote will be harder. So preferably the townies would like the wolves to kill a townie, since that would mean there’s only 3 people who could possibly be the werewolf. So the werewolves should focus on killing Masons, as it keeps them well hidden, while the townies should lynch townies, as it decreases the amount of places to hide.

It doesn’t matter who the wolfs kill. There’s no need for lying either. The known townies outnumber the unknown by 2. All the town has to do is kill an unknown every night and they are guaranteed victory. There could be three werewolves left and they would still win as long as everyone voted.

If they were only up by one though it would be a crap shoot.

Your post count is extra evil!

I think it depends how seriously people take the game.
If there’s a lot of drinking and nobody takes it too seriously, fine.

But if players are trying to use strategy, a zombie making remarks can cause offense.

D’oh! I broke the funny. Ah well, in about 60 years it might make sense again.

Well, the remaining werewolf would be insane to target vanilla townies since all that would do would reduce the number of possible hits the masons need to make. So make the wolf sweat a bit about who can finger him for one more day. Why give the wolves more info than they need?

Just a thought – what about the wolves not knowing how many masons there are, to even out not knowing the number of wolves?

Totally doesn’t matter. When known townies of any flavor outnumber the unknowns by 2 or more they are guaranteed victory as long as they aren’t stupid. Much like wolves getting a majority would be guaranteed victory.

The only possible thing the final wolf can hope for is that he makes it down to the point where it’s 1 unknown (the wolf) versus 2 known townies and one of them is unable to post during the day and cast his vote leaving the vote to lynch 1-1.

That’d be a sad way to end this game though.

I’m curious, did you suspect I was the Seer before I claimed? I had my suspicions about you at that time, but they weren’t as strong as they were afterwards. I was worried that I was becoming a prime target, but it took jsgoddess’ imminent lynching to spur me into outing myself. I figured I had better get my information out there before everything went south; also, I was counting on everyone freaking out and making mistakes so I could get a more solid read on the situation and figure out how best to use my powers. MTS shot himself in the foot nicely; you were more subtle but I was pretty well on to you by the end of the day. Unfortunately Ogre slipped up as well, but my decision to investigate you instead of MTS had nothing to do with that.

MTS might have done better claiming to be the real Seer. I would have known he was lying of course, but the rest of the townies might have had doubts.

Party first, game second.

Had you not claimed that day, you would have never made it to the next, mostly because of your post content/voting record, you were also a Seer candidate, but we had been wrong before. Since you left almost no “breadcrumbs” it’s no wonder we were puzzled. Your claim both confused and annoyed me, especially because you were due to die that night.

There was a lot that didn’t go as planned on the wolves side, some things were our fault (see my above post) some were town luck, and some were/are things I can’t talk about yet.

The first day that MTS was on the gallows I tried to distance myself, but then he false claimed and I pounced, gaining us an extra day. It was very dirty, and barely worked (much like my wolf admission) but it served its purpose, as I was almost positive about the GA’s identity. Part of me thought that you wouldn’t investigate MTS, and I hoped that you wouldn’t investigate me. Ogre’s post was after we had already voted, and it was kind of funny, because i thought Kat might have been a long shot for GA, but then she wished MTS good luck and Ogre practically said “I’m the damn GA”. That made that kill that much more sweet.
Your data came out, and everyone ate it up, which i was a bit surprised by. Then jsgoddess’s list came out and our fate was sealed. We could cast doubts, but not effectively. At that point the Seer, GA, and all three masons were alive, our only chance to even gain a squeeker of a victory was to off the two big guys right away. We did that, but it was too late.

Had we killed any one of the 5 town roles by luck earlier, the game would have been very different. Obviously Seer or GA would have been great, but even a mason would have made their position almost useless.

There is a slight maneuver that I had planned before my death, it was not used, and the result will soon be apparent. It was a great game to play no matter the outcome.

I kind of envy the townies, they have a much more “kill or be killed” mentality to work with. We just had to not lose the game, and get lucky a few times.

Richard Parker, paging Richard Parker.

It’s time for your interview.
