Il mio viaggio in Italia, an MMP

:frowning:

I just saw that the final tallies for Prop 8… dammit. I was really holding out hope that Cali, of all places, would prove to be a more enlightened place than the likes of Florida and Arkansas. My heart goes out to the American gays and lesbians… this is such a blow. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

{{gotti}}

Where’re you going that you need a passport? We’ll expect a nice OP with pics like Pugs’ when you come back!

Sorry about Prop 8, gotti. What does that mean for your wedding plans? :frowning:

We went to our neighbors’ house for an election party last night and really had a nice time. We’ve only chatted with these neighbors a couple times, and up to now we hadn’t done anything with any of our neighbors before so it was really nice to feel like we’re starting to get to know the neighbors and settle in to the neighborhood a bit. Plus, they’re friends were lots of engineer-y-types like us so that was fun. We’ve been missing our geek friends since we moved here. My marketing/business coworkers are fun, but they always want to go to the cool new spot or to the show by “this great band!” And we’re more of the stay-home-and-have-friends-over type. So it’s just hard to do stuff with them. Hopefully we can find ourselves a group of engineers (aka “geeks like me”) to hang out with as we stay here a bit longer.

I just thought you’d like to know…

I have a headache.

And, I can’t go to TVLand because I have a dinner tonight and a very early breakfast in the morning.
Carry on.

**Bobbio **-- I know what it’s like to live through the loss of a political battle, and under the administration that follows.
Sometimes the wheel turns against you. While I too was hoping for Obama’s win, I understand how you feel, but I think you need to realize that many others felt the way you do now for quite a few years. Yet somehow we (mostly) make the best of the cards dealt us by public opinion and get on with our lives :slight_smile:

{{{Gotti}}} – sorry about prop 8 :(. IIRC you did get the paperwork done already? I Hope? Hopefully these marriages already joined will get grandfathered in, if only by default (since hopefully the hateful crazies won’t dare content them lest it give somebody grounds to go to SCOTUS and claim unconstitutionality.)
Hoping twofold, that you can retain (or get) your married status, and that the proposition is repealed in 2010!

I am now temporarily single, having sent my wife off to Philly for 4 days about an hour or so ago…

We don’t know yet. All I know for sure is that the venue is booked, and 95 invitations have been mailed out. So far, only one declination has come in, and that’s because of a conflicting event.

I just took a peek at our registry, and things are already being bought.

CA Attorney General Jerry Brown says the existing 18,000 or so marriages will not be annulled. The Prop 8 supporters say they will be.

I’ve confirmed with the county clerk’s office that our marriage was recorded in July, so we are one of those 18,000. Our county clerk is also one of those 18,000.

There’s some talk of whether this was brought to the ballot properly in the first place, and whether it’s a revision rather than an amendment. If it is qualified as a constitutional amendment, well, it can’t be called unconstitutional, but it’s against existing articles. How long will it take to sort out whether or not this violates the letter and or spirit of Article 1, Section 7(b) which says “A citizen or class of citizens may not be granted privileges or immunities not granted on the same terms to all citizens.”? If they deny me marriage, that means heterosexuals are being granted privileges not granted on the same terms to me.

So… We have the hall, and people have booked flights and hotel rooms. We’ll have some sort of party, even if we’re not able to say “I do” again.

Through all of this, my insurance company is still dragging their feet on allowing the meds my doctor prescribed. The alternate OTC meds are burning a hole in my stomach. Hopefully they don’t object to the Priolosec or whatever will be needed to repair the damage caused by their delays.

{{{gotti}}} what can I say.

Howdy Y’all! I have a sinus headache. Ick.

That is all.

{{{{gotti}}}}}

Oh it’s going to be a fun day in The Courts soon.

Reality stopped by work today and crashed both the library website and the catalog. Fun times.

{{{gotti}}}

It’s a mindset I will never understand.

But, whatever happens you will be together with the one you love surrounded by people who support you without question. Did you invite the Town Clerk?? :smiley:

Wow, I can’t believe prop 8 passed! So sorry gotti and anyone else affected by it. :(:(:frowning: Hope the trip to the courts undoes the damage.

And you should definitely have a great party despite the legal crap. Glad you took care of the legalities earlier.

I’m not going anywhere immediately, taxi, but since Mom and all our family on her side live in Mexico and Faraway Best Friend lives in Germany, I always like to have a current passport in case there’s a need for emergency travel. My passport expired in August. :eek:

Worked on finishing off the front steps. One more round on Sunday (when it’s supposed to be almost warm) and I’ll be done.

Now I’m just going to veg.

If it’s any consolation, I know a bunch of us would have voted against it given the chance. Not living in California, I couldn’t. That sort of bigotry infuriates me!

On the upside…Idaho sent a DEMOCRAT to the House. Idaho! cue Twilight Zone music

Also on the upside, I just found out that the local shelter is waiving adoption fees for kitties this month. I’m going to go take a look. I think it’s about time I found a feline overlord.

The Roomba intrigues, yet frightens, the cats.

I stayed up to watch Jon Stewart declare the winner. I’m exhausted. Quiche in the oven - done in a few minutes. I may just eat and crash…

I got nothing else. Hey, except this - do you know we elected the first African American President in the History of the United States??? I think I heard someone mention that on the radio 50 or a hundred times… :stuck_out_tongue:

Sometimes the media makes me crazy.

Bad headache, going to bed soon.

{{{gotti}}}

Ah, that makes sense.

I’m at work late again at the start of what’s looking like a really late night. And my stomach’s not feeling so good. I wanna go home. :frowning:

All the anti-gay propositions (heh) passed, so it would seem - now it’s illegal for a gay couple to adopt a child in Arkansas even. It just makes no sense, especially given all the older children who are so in need of a good home. So yes, there is a little bittersweet mixed in. Hugs to gays in CA and the other states.

So glad that tomorrow is Thursday. We’re getting new carpeting in the office suite; everything in our cubes needs to be packed up :eek: I guess that’s what I’ll be doing on Friday. I’m also going to toss out a lot of stuff.

Is it Firday yet?! And where are those Halloween pics someone promised! :smiley:

Quiche has been inhaled - I think I ate too fast, but I was stahvink.

I hate life after the time change - it gets way too dark way too early!

Hang in there, gotti, looks like the ACLU has got your back, and it looks promising. It seems awfully unlikely that the same Supreme Court that ruled it unconstitutional to deny gays the right to marry would suddenly reverse themselves because of an initiative that passed by such a narrow margin. Worst case scenario, it gets kicked to the legislature to be reworked for feasibility as a revision to the constitution, and in the meantime EVERY LGBT person in the state needs to run down and get married ASAP–so there could be divorces later, so what? Give them a bigger fait accompli to deny after the fact. They’d look both stupid AND heartless!

Mmmmm… quiche. Glad you’re back on solids, FCM. :slight_smile:

I’ve got an eye of round roast in the oven. I love them because I can buy them for ridiculously cheap if the store has a sale (I got a $1.99/lb sale, so this particular hunk of roast beast cost me a whopping $5).

As long as you cook them proper-like, they’re also very very tasty. See, what you do is get the oven cranked up to 500F, and while it’s heating up, pat the roast dry, put it on a rack over a roasting pan, season with lots of S&P and then slather generously with butter. Once the oven lets you know it’s good and hot, pop the roast in there for 7 mins per lb and then turn off the oven… BUT (here’s the tricky part, kiddies) don’t touch that oven door, because now you have to let the roast sit in that oven for 2-2.5 hours. Don’t touch that door. Don’t open it even a teensy crack, even if the smell is causing the cats/dogs/husband to drool uncontrollably. Just. Leave. It. Alone.

The (im)patient waiting ends in 15 mins. I guess that means I should start on the mashed N.O.T., huh?

I remember Clinnochio, and I remember Carter. I fear for my paycheck on many levels. I want a gubmint that leaves me the hell alone, and we haven’t had one of those since the 1890s. :mad:

I’m not entirely happy with the outcome, but less unhappy than had it gone the other way. As for those of you running to stuff matresses - it wouldn’t have mattered who was elected, the economy is going to tank anyway, and gas prices are going to soar again.
I might have been happy with a McCain/Biden ticket, or even an Obama/McCain (or McCain/Obama) one, . . . I’m just glad we won’t be hearing much from Caribou Barbie until the 2012 campaigns start up.

By the way, I called it in 2002: I predicted Hilary would run in '08 and lose and try again in '12 and win. I now amend that to “try again in '16 and win” because Obama will surely try for a second term.

And even if you’re not happy with the outcome, and I respect your right to feel so, be happy that the people in this country, the tolerance/acceptance level, has come so far that not only was a non-caucasian able to run, and garner as much support as he did, but that he actually won. His first 100 days will be very telling. I think that with a democratic house, he may do okay.
