A year ago my mother, all flustered, told me about let’s-call-him-Joe. Joe was one of my classmates, and one of the classmates that she would have loved to match me up with. He was “encantador,” very polite and charming, always neatily dressed even when we were in kindergarten. Mothers just loved him.
Joe, she had just found out, had just gotten married !
Why, that’s lovely, I said, for some reason he never stroke me as the marriage type.
But, Nava, he’s GAY! He got married to a husband!
Oh, ok, said I, that would explain it.
… but he’s gay…
I think she finally got over it
gotti, I have an idea.
I marry you. Then you get Spanish residency. Then we get a flash divorce on grounds of not having seen each other in six months. Then you marry DH! TA-DAAAAAAAAH!
I’ll just never get it. Either marriage is a private business (in which case the state has to keep its paws off) or its a legal contract (in which case churches keep their paws off). A specific marriage can be both at the same time, but it doesn’t have to, and dangit, separation of church and state and all that stuff!
Because otherwise they wouldn’t be “breakfast”, silly!
I’ve been an absentee for a while, far too much election nonsense around here for me. Now it’s all over, bar the shouting, it might be safe to come back…and anyway, I have to spend the next two months boring your socks off with my holiday plans. Which I know you’re all just dying to hear.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. It’s a might chilly out. 49 Amurrkin degrees! BRRR! On the up side, the high will be 79 Amurrkin.
Today I get passwords (hi gotti! :D). Real passwords. No fake trainin’ passwords anymore. Go me. Rah. Tomorrow, we take a few calls then go talk about it. Next week, we do more of the same plus some training on a system because, well, I’m not sure why but it’s kinda like, a system that while not used now will be used. Sometime. Not necessarily in any of our lifetimes, but sometime. For real. That’s almost what the trainer said.
Oh well, it pays good.
Ok, off for more caffiene and in search of brekkies.
Sorry, swampy, I just sent it on it’s way to Canton, OH. It might be cold by the time you get there.
And so now I have about 3 hours before I have to do anymore work. Too bad there’s nowhere to take a nap here.
Also, I’d like to say GRRRR. Somehow I keep getting pop-up ads despite both Google and Yahoo pop-up blockers being enabled. Oh well, I never had this problem on my computer and I will be getting it back this weekend.:D:D
Up at 4 AM, so’s I could get to work early, to leave early. I’m scheduled to work 6 hours in the ICU at the horsepistol in Betsytown for my EMT class. I won’t be getting to bed tonight until durn near midnight.
This weekend is the Rescue Squad’s Brunswick Stew fundraiser. VWife is gonna help debone chikkin tomorrow afternoon. I may squeeze in a little help myself, but I have class in Kinston on Saturday, another early and long day. Ima gonna be frazzled all to hell from lack of sleep.
At least the new water heater I put in last weekend is working just peachy. Something has to go right for me.
Please take a moment to give me some feedback in my menu-planning threadfor this weekend. I’m trying to figure out what food to send with TVMan when he goes off to visit his son. But it isn’t easy.
morning all, at work already and caffeination is in progress. CutiePie, I’m sorry I don’t have any input for your menu-planning thread–I’ve no idea what to suggest! Definitely not broccoli or cauliflower though ducks and runs And BooFae, I do indeed want to hear all about your vacation plans! Did you finally get 'im Indoors to schedule the next Vegas trip?!
One more day here, then I have tomorrow off! Even though I have to go for my diabetic bloodwork checkup at 8:00 am tomorrow. Fasting sucks, especially when it takes them until 11:00 am to see me! To be honest, that’s only happened once. Usually I’m in and out.
Then I get to play all day! I may get a haircut, I sure need one. This weekend is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous. This is the best time of year in Houston - nice and cool with low humidity. Yay!
This computer is definitely acting strange. Now, along with the pop-ups a little icon telling me that my computer is infected with spyware is in the little bar at the bottom on the right hand side. I ran Yahoo anti-spy, but it’s still there.
Eventually, and after much wrangling with dates! I’d been planning around our course exam being in December and had told him what dates I could manage in early Jan because I get a quiet couple of weeks when the exam papers go out to the markers and I just wait for the deluge of results. We took ages to thrash out when to travel and had just booked everything when I got copied into an email from someone at the Medical School which happened to mention a change to the exam date! Arrrggghhhhh!
So we had to cancel our original plans and then work on a new plan but we are finally booked to travel down to Gatwick on Tuesday 13th Jan, with a flight the following morning on one of Mr Branson’s lovely planes. We’ll be staying in Vegas for 10 days and cramming in as much stuff as we can - we are intending to fit in at least three shows, and two full day visits to the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. There’s bound to be more, after all there’s shopping to be done!
The library coffee shop is doing its part to fight the Zombie War. Their debit card machine went down, but the very nice barista lady let me and the other people without cash have our coffees anyway.
(I’m going to pay her before I leave this afternoon of course. Don’t want her to get in trouble. All the other baristas on campus are too busy being snots and gossiping to actually serve the customers.)
I have nothing to do today. Joy. Also, it’s 9:30 and half the staff haven’t even come in for the day yet… and the rest are so quiet that I suspect they’re napping at their desks.
Good thing there’s a whole week’s worth of celebrity gossip to catch up on.
{{{gotti}}} By far the stupidest pieces of legislation ever to appear on ballots in this country. I pity people with such narrow hateful little minds.
rosie, you don’t think people will think Hill will be too old at 69?
muppet, I lurves me some eye of round roast beast. I will have to try your cooking method. Can you see me drooling from up there?
pie, I will check out your thread shortly.
boofae, my sis did the Vegas thing a couple of years ago and had a blast. She and SO did a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon and loved it.
Not much going on hereabouts other than our pool company has been using a picture of our pool in all their ads, including this one (top banner and right-hand ad) here. Mr. Anachi is very proud.
The BT dude is supposed to come tomorrow to finally set up my phone. It’s the third attempt. This time the Lady On The Phone sent me a SMS to make sure they had the right number (apparently the other two times they’d given my old number to the engineer; the new place’s bell doesn’t work). Yesterday I received a letter advising me of the appointment
forwarded from my old addy. I haven’t been there in three weeks, hello, BT wake up!
Crossing of appendages re. the engineer being able to find me (hi, I’m that 40yo chick sitting at the big bay window with a bunch of toy soldiers, excuse me, W40K figures) will be appreciated. No, swampus, not like that, you’re not interested in appreciatin’ like that from me anyway!
I wanna look at Pugs’ pics!
Head over to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ for a free scan. It does take quite a while, but the price is right. In case you’re wondering who Trend is, they’re kinda rare in the home market, but they’re a big player in enterprise systems.
Something else worth noting is that it’s not a “resident” AV product - once the scan is done and you close the page, it’s done and gone. Not great as a primary defense, but very good as a “second opinion.”
I’d hate to be in our Attorney General’s shoes. He’s got two tasks that seem at odds with each other - he has to defend Prop 8 as well as defend the existing marriages. So far, the lawsuits against Prop 8 are largely leaning on how this is such a large-scale change to people’s fundamental rights that it must be considered a revision, rather than an amendment. If that passes muster, then Prop 8 is void as it was brought up improperly - there’s a very different process to make revisions, and they can’t be initiated by popular vote.
**Gotti, ** I sure hope they throw that nasty piece of garbage out with the rest of the trash. Seriously, I can’t decide whether Prop 8 or the Arkansas Unmarried Couple Adoption measure is the more hateful. I’m leaning toward the Arkansas one being slightly ahead, because in their haste to prevent gay couples from adopting they’re also shutting out hetero couples such as Himself and me who cohabit without benefit of clergy, and because it keeps kids from finding homes AND foster homes–how fucked up is that? Hell, the way it’s written it doesn’t allow single parent adoptions either, which is just evil.
WTF is wrong with these people, how are they being hurt in any way? It’s just spitefulness and meanness and I wish them all bad cess, flaming ass boils and a really messy divorce.
Aside from all that outrage, I’m still unemployed, broke, my car is STILL not fixed and I’m grumpy as hell so I’ll not inflict my poopy mood on y’all. Instead I shall go to the library and see if I can find something interesting to read–the last two books were a total waste of time. Grrrrr.
You are -so- right, Smarty! Oy, the Arkansas measure is worse because it’s hurting kids who need loving homes as well as gays, un-married hetero couples and even singles who would love to adopt or even foster them. WTF kind of mess is that?! Not very … ahem, well, it’s not very Christian, imho.
Is the AG Jerry Brown the same Jerry Brown who used to be Gov.- the one we called Moonbeam back in the day? Well … he was out there a bit (orbiting Neptune …).
I agree with this. I just wish everyone else would see how right we are and agree too.
Sounds like a great trip, BooFae! My manager’s coming back tomorrow from more than a week in Vegas and the surrounding area. I don’t think they did that much sightseeing though; she and her husband are avid golfers and probably spent most of the time out golfing.
Just got my flu shot at work. I don’t get the lack of organization around the flu shot thing here though. I’ve been here for this for 3 years now, and every year they just schedule an hour to distribute them. Um… I was in line early, probably within the first dozen people, and it took about 35 minutes for them to get to me. They’re expecting 100 people. So say I was #12. That’s 3 minutes apiece. That means 300 minutes. That’s 5 hours, not 1. :smack:
