I'll live to regret this, but here's the Semantle thread

I solved Semantle #75 in 100 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -1.63. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #29. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 47.87 (995/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

Felt like I guessed every single green word before getting it.

I gave up today. I came really close with my guess, but felt like I was never going to get it.

Utter luck. I was listening to an NPR report, and among my usual tries I also inserted a couple of words from the narrative, and the second one I tried (which was my 15th guess) hit at 331.

I solved Semantle #75 in 19 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.46. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #15. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 69.29 (999/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

To get from 331 to the end in four guesses is pretty impressive.

From 175 to 19 in one day .

I got today’s (76) in 118. It’s the first one I got in some time.

I did have one distinction, however, a couple of days ago. When the word was title I managed to get the 1000th word (masters) and the closest word (championship without getting the winner. :facesmack: I see chela had got similarly close!

I solved Semantle #76 in 189 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.31. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #30. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 30.45 (853/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

That was rough.

Has anyone tried redactle? https://www.redactle.com/
Similar in spirit, I liked it.

I solved Semantle #76 in 123 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.43. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #27. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 3.91.

It’s funny, some of my early words put me on completely the wrong path, and yet now that I have the answer, I understand the association. Really fascinating.

I’ll look at the puzzle you suggested!

I just tried this, and I’ve gotten to #990 on puzzle 76, but I can’t seem to get it. My close guesses seem to fall into two different broad categories, and I can’t think of anything that overlaps both of those categories. And you’d think that by the time you got to 990, the answer would be a pretty close synonym, but I can’t think of any more of those.

This was such a tough one! My first “green” was at guess 37 and I found it at guess 113!

But when I put that word in, I knew it was right before I hit enter. What an amazing exploration this one was.

990 is pretty close. You would agree if you saw the answer, I think. Try to think less of synonyms and more words used in the same context. But really, it’s just hard.

Ok, this has never happened before

I solved Semantle #77 in 12 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 59.18 (984/1000).My penultimate guess had a similarity of 1.95. https://semantle.novalis.org/

Amazing. I’m saving it for tomorrow.

I solved Semantle #77 in 47 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.63. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.94. https://semantle.novalis.org/

I got stuck on 999 and then went for a walk and it came to me.

I gave up for this answer but Semantle stats kindly gave me a win! Yay 1 on the board!

77 was a weird one for me. My first guess was 974/1000 and I thought it was going to be a piece of cake. 238 guess later, I finally got it. This game has a way of humbling you, don’t it!

I solved Semantle #78 in 214 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.49. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #86. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 31.68.

I gave up on #77 yesterday, and today’s guess was a total fluke when I got it, I was almost at the point of throwing darts at a thesaurus.

I’m finding Redactle a little easier after my first two go-rounds with each.

I solved Semantle #78 in 69 guesses. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #51. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 40.44 (710/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

Like a terrible golfer, I had trouble finding the green….

I solved Semantle #78 in 48 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.66. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #34. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 36.57 (311/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/

For #77, all of my verb guesses scored higher than the related noun or adjective guesses, so I figured it was a verb. Nope, adjective, as I found after I gave up.
