I'm about to start cussin'

We can do without the auto-removing of quotes in our replies.

Highlight, tap the quote feature, and new post shows up with quote.
Edited to add: No it doesn’t.

S’what I’m talkin’ about. If you quote the very last post in full, system erases it.

I’m tired of having to mess with it. Just turn it off.

ETA: Goddammit, it did it again.

Agreed!

Trying it again, this time leaving off the period at the end of the sentence.
And it worked.

Yup. I add a non-breaking space to the end (when I remember). Taking off trailing smilies and adding regular spaces to the end don’t work, but a regular space to the beginning does (IIRC).

Now, now, there, Mrs. Disco-Nanny-Bot knows better than thou, so be a good little poster and eat your peas and carrots and stop fussing or we’ll send you to bed without your dinner.

Actually, I’ve been coming around to thinking that’s probably a good-ish thing, although we don’t need no steenkin nanny-bot to tell us so.

Back in the Before Times, this was actually common: When replying directly to the immediately previous post, posters would just add a new post rather than quoting the post. As you’re reading the thread, it comes naturally: You see a post, and the next post responds to it without quoting it, and it (usually) seems clear.

Everybody, go to the blackboard and write one hundred times:
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
( . . . )
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)
  (Don’t forget that semi-colon!)

… so you’ll have it thoroughly memorized and programmed into your hind-brain and your finger-tips and you’ll automatically, habitually type this into EVERY quote you make without even thinking about it, and all will be well forever and ever.

ISWYDT!

That’s fine, as long as it’s clear what you’re responding to. If I go to the trouble of adding a quote, there’s a reason for it, and Discourse be damned.
