I seem to be addicted to Straight Dope Great Debates. How can I escape?
I recognize that asking Dopers is like asking one’s drinking buddies how to stop drinking. Those who know how to stop posting are no longer here. 
(Mods – I started this thread in GD, because that’s my addiction; feel free to move it.)
Is december’s dependency on SDGD anti-American? Is he harming the war effort by making too many irrelevant and silly posts, distracting America’s thinkers from pondering important questions of policy?
If not, when will you accept that his dependency is indeed anti-American? If so, how should we put pressure upon him to resume his patriotic questioning of all sides of the argument? Will mandatory military service be enough, or should he simply be asked to leave the country?
Request a temporary banning. Think of it as detox.

Remedies have been discussed before (in the Pit, I seem to recall).
You might try and taper off with less addictive activities (like writing letters to the editor of the New York Times and The Nation).
Or ask Mrs. December if she knows anyone willing to undertake an exchange transfusion.

Hey, if you put an MPSIMS thread in GD, expect in MPSIMS response.
I too am a GD dopaholic. But I don’t limit myself to the SDMB. I debate on other MB’s too.
I spend hours researching facts and news stories just to illustrate my case. At work, “around the water cooler,” I’ve said things like “Cite please.”
I am also addicted to coffee.
These may be problems, but they’re mine and I like them.
I like them.
Step 1: Ask the Mod to move this to MPSIMS.
Step 2: Only read ATMB, CoCC, CoSR, and IMHO. If you start feeling edgy, take an MPSIMS thread as a stopgap measure.
Step 3: On no account should you say “Hi” to OpalCat.
That should do for a start.

Don’t deliberately post in the wrong forum; it makes more work for us. Dopers who make us work harder by ignoring the rules they understand perfectly well can have their addiction forcefully “cured”, ifyaknowwhatImean.
