I'm getting respect cause I'm older??

I worked with a few people this week who I’ve not worked with in more than five years. It was very nice. A few old prickly feelings but mostly truly great to be working with this crowd of freelancers.

There was definitely a different tone. I felt as thought I was being shown some respect that I’d maybe not felt when working with them before the break.

I’m older? It’s not as though I’ve gained some professional stature in the last five years. In fact, I’ve lost some stature in the community because of some career shifts. And yet, there was a definite feeling that I was being shown some more respect.

Cause I’m 5 years older?? I can’t figure out why else. Are we really shown that as we age? Am I getting to the age where the gray shot through my beard and hair means something more than " oh shit that looks extremely feh on me " ?? I’m 43, btw.

Boy, I wish! I’m 40 and I still don’t get no respect – I feel like Rodney Dangerfield  !

Dunno, it must be something else 'cause I sure haven’t noticed increase of respect as I have aged.

Maybe you got wiser?*

More probably, they had to work with some turkeys in the meantime and are just eternally grateful to have someone back who they know has what it takes to do what it takes?

Otherwise, I don’t see it. You aren’t THAT much older.
