I'm going to be an Auntie

My sister is going to have a baby; she’s maybe a month along so we don’t know about genders and stuff yet. It’s not the ideal circumstances - not married, not much money, etc. But she’s made her decision, and she and the father are going to try to work something out, and they at least seem to be willing to remain civil.

I told her I would support her whatever decision she made, and she’s made it. So now I get to be excited about BABY CLOTHES!! WHEE!

Squishy, squishy babies…

I’m an uncle and it’s the best of all worlds: not only do you get to enjoy them, but when they get fractious / fill their nappy / whatever, you can hand them back.

I went right out of my mind when my sister told us she was pregnant. I loooove my niecelette and all the auntie-ness that goes with it. WaHOO! It’s the BEST!

YAY for you!
As I parent, may I humbly (and forcibly) suggest that for every toy, doodad, gizmo and thingie you buy for this bundle of joy because it was cuuuute/couldn’t resist/everyone else has it/I wanted it as a child but mom liked you better/whatever, put away half the purchase price into a bank account for the child to give to them when they are grown.

If I had a dollar for all the shit (and uncessary clothing purchases that they didn’t need.) the grandparents have bought and put it into an IRA or College fund for my kids, they would be able to attend a 4 year college, books and lodging included.
