I'm Going to Ireland!

Very mundane and pointless but…

I’m going! In the next three days! does the happy dance
I’ve missed it so much! I used to go over every year (except for last year) so it seems like ages. The city I’m living in now is generally hot, dusty and crappy this time of year. So, fresh air, long walks on the beach, good food and good pints here I come!
And tea! I can’t forget I’ll finally be able to drink a proper cup of tea!

What part?

Where are you now?

I’m in Sacramento, CA. It was over 100F here yesterday.
I’ll be in Wexford for two weeks.

Cool. Enjoy Wexford.

I wouldn’t mind 2 weeks in Sacramento. Grass is also greener and all that(although I doubt the real grass is actually greener over there  ).

If you make it to Dublin and want to meet a few of us for a pint drop a line or start a thread.

Thanks Yojimbo!
I plan on coming “up for the day” at some point. Is there anything on in the next two weeks?

Btw, the grass if definitely not greener over here. If my back garden is any indicator, it’s rather brown and crunchy. But, hey, you’re welcome to it.

yeah, we’re getting together on 5th june for pizza.

wexord…the sunny south east…
never been there.

so give us a shout if you want to join us

Some dopers are going out for pizza on Thursday night in Dublin - don’t know if that’s too soon for you, but you’re most welcome.

There you go.
A double invitation to join an Irish get together, and invited by non-irish people, even!

Jeez, a micro-Dubdope? I’m not sure if I can handle that, what with jet-lag and all…
Details please?

My younger brother left for Ireland two days ago, and will also be there for two weeks. If you see him, say ‘hi’!

I spent a week in Wexford a few years back. Great place- you know how to make a guy feel jealous.

:frowning:

Date: Thursday, June 5th
Venue: The Independent Pizza Company, Drumcondra
Time: TBA

Do any of you know where the film Ryan’s Daughter was filmed? That has to be one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen! I want to go there and to Dublin and to some small town where I can pretend to be Jeanne Garofalo’s mother.

I want to go to Ireland!!

Ryan’s Daughter was filmed on the Dingle peninsula, in County Kerry. In my opinion, this is the most jaw-droppingly, heart-achingly beautiful part of the whole of Ireland. The villages around the peninsula are lovely, and the town of Dingle is a great little place. I’ve been on vacation there a couple of times, and I’d live there in a heartbeat if there was any way of making money there (which, seasonal tourism aside, there isn’t really).

A lot of Ireland isn’t as lovely as the tourist brochures make it out to be, but Dingle really lives up to expectations. You should try to visit one day, Zoe, and have a pint of Guinness in Dick Mack’s!

20.00h?

And don’t forget - Dingle Town has 1500 permanant residents, and 52 pubs.

I loved Dingle.

Well lads/ladettes I received my standby tickets yesterday and saw that I’m not getting in until 11:00 on Thursday.
So, between:
-collecting my bags & rental car
-driving to Wexford
-settling into the rental house
-drinking the mandatory 3 cups of tea at every relative’s house within a 20km radius of Wexford town…

I don’t think I’ll be able to make it.:frowning:

On the bright side I don’t leave until the 19th, so if there is anything else on, or, if you feel like taking a trip to Wexford (where I’ll be happy to stand a few pints), please post to this thread.
Thanks again for the invite,
G.
(who shuffles away to go sulk in a corner)

Hi Granuaile! What about coming up at the weekend? Even if you miss the pizza on Thursday, I’m sure some locals would be happy to show you around or meet up for a beer and a chat. Me, for a start!

Or, a Wexford dopefest - why the hell not? Anyone interested?

Hey, I can make Thursday, although 20.00 is cutting it a bit close.

elfje what’s the address for your mailing list again?

Sadly, I probably can’t, as I’ll be working in Tarbert all this week.
